We lost the rebounding battle, the loose balls, didn't hustle on defense, played disorganized individual offense, missed layups... shot unnecessary threes... When the team isn't commited I dettach my own commitment. Why would I if they don't?

Accountability. Let's see JB and the team bounce back against the Hornets (2x).

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
I love Mazulla but why do you draw up a play for the guy who’s ice cold? Celtics shouldn’t be afraid to let someone besides Tatum and Brown take the last shot. There are some excellent shooters on this team. I am fine with Pritchard, Hauser, White, Horford or Holiday shooting at the end of a game if they are open. For all of Mazullas strengths he seems to struggle with getting us a quality shot at the end of the game. Maybe Brad can help him out because Stevens had some excellent plays at the end of games when he was coach.
I like that this team kept fighting even when down 20 in the fourth.

18 3PAs is wild against a team that has no rim protection and whose best perimeter defender is Tryhard Nesmith. The 15 FTAs nice though. Could've been more. 18 3PAs still wild. 5/7 from 2.

I think it was just a case of Joe trying to repeat what JB did in Game 1 of the ECF.

Get back to enjoyable basketball please, Cs. Start with playing some D and being more selfless on O.
After opening the season with almost 70% assist percentage and an 8.25 assist:turnover ratio vs. the Knicks, Celtics haven't cracked 56% AST% and 2.0 A/TO in the last 4 games. Trust the pass and trust your teammates!

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
Here's the biggest untapped potential of Queta.
He can often be a giant target for the starters when they move and draw the defense. Tatum, Brown etc haven't even started looking for Queta right under the basket yet. When they do it will open up all sorts of stuff. Brown does this very well with Porzingis.
Once they toss a few successful lobs, the defense will collapse to prevent that and the outside will then open up.
The other thing about that game is Queta was in the lineup against the fastest team in the league, who were playing no real center. He was guarding shifty quick players on the perimeter. During that time the Celtics went on their massive run. If he could succeed against Indy's speed, he can play against anyone.
I'm pretty sure that was his longest unbroken stint on the floor since joining the team.
Last night Mazzulla was resting Horford in preparation for long minutes Friday, then sitting the next game. If not Friday, Queta will have a big opportunity Saturday when Al sits.

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
Indy was 40% from 3 and 48% overall. Tough to beat a team when they're shooting that well. Lots of long offensive rebounds went their way after decent defensive possessions. These are great games to have for us and terrible games IMO for Indy. They should have beat us by 10+ points easily. Missed bunnies and ill timed missed free throws. Watch the C's go on a 10 game win streak now.
I said it yesterday. I said it yesterday, whether it was the 5th game in the regular season or the 5th game in a playoff series. No team can beat the C's in a 7 game series and Indy knows that.

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
Well, the Celtics shot like sh*t, so they were lucky to force OT.
Ordinarily it would bug me that JB took 30 shots but other than Derrick White (8-9 FGs) there was really no one else for him to pass to unless you consider Al Horford (3-6 FGs). Tatum ended up 10-25 FGs but he was launching 3's at the end simply because no one else could really be depended on to get a clean look.
Live by the 3, die by the 3. Wish they would run some more inside the line actions to generate better looks for players, even Brown.
Oh well ... Forget about this one. At least Queata looked good at the finish, like I knew he would, and Pritch got to end regulation and play the OT as a closer, which he is capable of when he's on a better day and Jrue isn't. Except Pritch's 5-14 is not better than Jrue's 3-9, but without Jrue's size. Still, I'm glad that Joe realized that Pritch can be a closer. So there are some good takeaways.
Hauser has trouble getting clean looks, unfortunately, but not sure if that's because they're not always willing to toss him the ball. Sammy could use more touches when he's not 30 feet from the hoop.

White scoring 2 less points than Brown whilst taking 21 less shots was….interesting.

That's only because White has the superior B-Ball IQ.
It's what is between White's ears that is the difference. Or what's not between JB's.

I think this is overstating it a bit. While there were some possessions where he held up pretty well out on the perimeter defending guys, there were also plays (one in particular where he was defending Haliburton) where guys were able to fairly easily create space off the dribble and hit a jumper over him, with Queta not really providing much pressure or resistance.
THere was also some plays where Queta was defending Siakam a little bit further from the basket and I felt pretty nervous..
Also, we should try to not put too much weight on any singular game. If we look at the big picture and factor in *all* the games Queta has played for the Celtics (reg season, preseason, summer league) overall he has been pretty hit or miss when it comes to defending out on the perimeter vs quick/shifty players. Sometimes he handles those situations well and sometimes he doesn't.
We've got 2 switchable bigs (Tillman, Al) and we've got 3 rim protector, drop bigs (KP, Queta, Kornet). All of them are good and all bring different things to the table..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

We should not put too much stock into Quetas performance but here let me show you one garbage time play from Jaden Springer that proves he’s the next Gary Payton. Come onnnnnnnnnnnnn

I tend to agree with Hal and others that Queta is more of a situational player,
not sure you want him to have guarded Turner - he'd be exposed - but B Robb
makes a decent case for Queta being given a larger role...

As I always say, Sunk Cost Springer needs to be dealt before the Deadline,
they are just waiting for more of his salary to be paid off,
so they don't have to use an impactful Second to get it done...

Yes, larger role and let's go from there.
Queta is 6-11 without shoes and 7-0.5 with shoes and 7-4 wingspan.
Time will tell, but the potential is there.

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
Felt a fake comeback was incoming and was glad I didn't pay to go see that kind of effort. The 4th was cool, but my lord was it terrible before then effort wise. Lazy play by JB in iso way too much, some bad turnovers from him and JT both dribbling off their feet. Turnovers in general our biggest culprit of the bad defense as Indy just ran it down our throats after turnovers and then a cold shooting night from 3 led to long rebounds they ran with as well. Queta making the most of his opportunities. Joe is a bit of an enigma in his rotations sometimes for guys trying to break through so unsure if it means much going forward for Queta. He's earned the chance at least imo, but Joe isn't going to overreact to one game either. Took Hauser, Kornet and PP awhile to earn his trust, but once they got it they were in the rotation. Queta could be the same way easily and hopefully on the same path. I guess in the end it was a real comeback and a winnable game, but hey we're still undefeated in regulation lol.

Re: Celts Force OT But Stall At The Finish Line! Loss vs IND 10/30
Brown's selection as finals MVP did not make him a better player. He couldn't even hit the rim on that final shot; Carlisle knew exactly who to leave open. And maybe Brown ought to work a little on his free throw shooting.
