I'm not sure what the issue is with talking about players weaknesses pointing out their ideal role. Sure, many of us are prone to hyperbole to drive a point home or to add some humor to it. We're all rooting for the same thing. We all want Nick to be the best version of himself. It's fantastic that he's taken another noticeable leap in his Improvement most notably using his strength and body to bully people down low. Nick has one true Elite NBA skill which will always make him a very serviceable backup, and that's his offensive rebounding.

Maybe my statement was a little extreme. I was mostly referring to the 4th quarter when it seemed like something was bothering him a little bit. There were several times during dead ball action where he looked like he was hurting. He jogged back several times and then of course three or four times in a row where Mitchell blew by him. He wasn't using his feet and resorted to grabbing as the defensive tactic.Rich4114 wrote:fatlever wrote:I do agree that lamelo's defense especially at the end of the game last night was benchworthy. His defensive effort lasted all of about a one and a half games this season. But 4th quarter last night was absolutely ridiculous. He made no effort to stay in front of Mitchell or whoever else he was guarding. I think he's kind of in half-assing it on defense ever since he took that hard fall the other night.

That's an extreme statement. He picked up some fouls and backed off a bit, but I recall a play in the 3rd Q where he was relentless on ball defense and it led to a deflection + steal. He was also absolutely hounded by Mitchell most of the night
I just think maybe his body is hurting a little more than he's letting on from that fall.
And no doubt that Mitchell was hounding him all night. That was my comment about being frustrated that we allowed Mitchell to take Melo off ball.
I hope what we are seeing from Lee's offense is like the infant version and there's still a lot to add, because right now in the half court the primary ball handler is on an island at the top of the key trying to get past this man or wait for a screen that takes way too long to get there. There needs to be a lot more ways to get our key players the ball and get the defense moving beyond just ball handler beating his man off the dribble or from a screen at the top of the key. That type of basic offensive scheme will get obliterated if we are in a playoff situation. I think this is also why we're seeing some struggles from micic.

Yep. I actually thought his atrocious D was probably the result of him not feeling great. He did land hard on his tailbone I believe in Q4 so that might have had an impact.

Miles is clearly struggling to find his role a bit under Charles. He might be one of those players who needs the offense to get him going to do all the other stuff.
early days.

Agreed on LaMelo. And good point on the offense, it is taking too long to get initiated and it's leading to these stretches where it's difficult to manufacture points without making difficult shots. It's the screen setting. They're either poor or come way too late (Nick).

I don't think these type of comments exist if there isn't a lot of posts bashing him.

i dunno man i checked the thread, its the Rockets GDT thread and the only comments before that about Nick was that someone said he was a third string level center which to me is barely hate, dudes a backup center on near minimum money on a bad team. obviously he's an okay backup, ideally a third/situational big. you aren't going to win a playoff series with Nick Richards in the rotation unless you're stacked. and one other comment that was observing that he was getting cooked by Sengun (he was)
can you point to the actual hate instead of the claims of hate, cause i agree that the latter is much easier to find than the former

I think the whole point of those comments is that it was an ongoing thing, which is what I have been saying... not just a post talking about one comment in one game thread...
I think if you have read this forum it is pretty obvious there is more negative banter around Richards than positive. I don't think it really requires me to spend an hour finding 10 examples for you dissect.

I think one important note about start that Nick has had so far this season is to mention that Coach Lee is taking advantage of Nick's one Elite NBA skill, offensive rebounding and and letting him loose in that regard. I mean it's no secret that Clifford was not a coach who wanted his players chasing offensive rebounds at the expense of getting back on defense. It was one of his core pillars.
