yeah i remember always hearing that he was leading the leagues in strikouts and was second to hughes haha perfect timing to trade him though. i was never impressed when i watched him pitch in the regular season, he sat at 87-88 and could sometimes squeeze out that 89 mph, but he does have a good changeup. however i still think he can be a pretty good NL pitcher.

Who said that? No one with half a brain expected Clippard to be anything but what he turned out to be.

People thought he would be a good middle of the rotation starter. When Sickels and others said that Clippard wasn't very good, the collective Yankee fanbase cried out loud and said "OMG SICKELS HATE US HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT".

Albie went 1-1 with an ERA of 1.18 for the Nationals last season. Struck out 12 batters in 14.1 innings while walking 2. Allowed 7 hits in the 14 innings, alllowed hitters to hit .149 against him and had a WHIP of 0.63.

Not a great sample but good in limited play.

He's a big dude...6-5 and about 260 pounds.

Yeah the numbers are nice but what pitches does he throw and with what velocity? What's his out pitch? What would a hitter want to know before going up against him?

He sits right around 90 mph with his fastball, but his out pitch is his curve. His change is also very good. He also has excellent control of most of his stuff. He's kind of a poor man's Kennedy.

BA said:
Albaladejo, 25, also made his big league debut in 2007, giving up three runs in 14 1/3 innings for the Nationals. He struck out 12 and walked just two. A 19th-round pick of the Pirates in 2001, Albaladejo went 7-3, 2.97 with 56-22 K-BB in 61 innings split between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus this season. He joined the Nationals in May 2007 after the Pirates released him. Albaladejo, who was born in Puerto Rico but was drafted out of Miami-Dade North CC, worked as a starter in his first four pro seasons, but converted to relief in 2005. He's posted a strong 175-51 K-BB mark in 187 innings since the conversion, throwing his low-90s fastball for strikes and mixing in two breaking balls and a changeup.

Cashman said his best secondary pitch is a slider so I guess all reprots are varying.

If he can set up, that frees Joba to start. That's probably their thinking.

The Nats wouldn't trade a set up man for a contending team for Clippard....
