The reason stupidity is so attractive to a power monger is their low intelligence makes them eager consumers of conspiratorial fantasies that are used to turn into a tribe of cultists. And cultists reflexively do whatever they are told to do. This is a dictator's dream audience.

The great horror of the past decade is about a third of Americans are dumb as a rock. Once upon a time it may have been you had intelligent conservatives you'd be in disagreement with, but they essentially do not exist within the GOP any longer since it was co-opted by Trump fanatics.
And then you have the other morons who think they are clever by playing both sides of the fence, but in reality they are as dumb as the MAGA horde in their conviction that all politicians are functionally identical. They are a variant of the Dunning-Kruger Syndrome where a person is too stupid to know they are stupid where you have a genuinely clueless person who adopts bothsideisms as a banner of their intellectual integrity.
In their diminished minds, they've convinced themselves they are are more objective than any partisan because they are not taking sides, they're simply distrustful of everything to the point of denying any facts have greater weight than other facts. This type of person who flattens all logic with the simple assertion that objective truth is not obtainable because everything is actually just a subjective version of reality dependent solely on individual POV. It is sublimely stupid in ways a raw MAGA doesn't aspire to because they just DGAF, but it is equally stupid all the same.
This is why I disagreed with you about calling out stupidity, because the past decade has a steady drip of normalizing all kinds of behavior previously seen as insane at worst or disingenuous at best. If you continue to give dishonest bothsiders and MAGAs the illusion of intellectual equality in the vain hope you will educate them or win them over all it does is normalize their addiction to lying, deceit and their lust to punish those they objectify as the enemy.
Behind the crocodile tears about being insulted lays a misogyny of fathomless depths and a lust for mayhem should their cult gain absolute control. I do not for one second believe anyone spread fascist memes online deserves respect or the pretense of civility. It has nothing to do with maintaining the higher moral ground and not stooping to their level. It is that we allowed them to get away with dictating the public discourse for so long we've forgotten what it means to fight back and tell Nazi scum exactly what they are.
