Re: PG: Knicks vs Heat: 10/30/24
Finally watched the game. I don’t like to post in the post game thread until I do. Rather try to see if I agree with some of the observations in real time. That said…
Yeah KAT was OUTSTANDING! Full stop. Period.
There are four teams where we’ll need Mitch and KAT to play together: Celtics (when they have KP), Cavs, Sixers, and Nuggets. Maybe the Bucks but OG might be able to handle Giannis some. I mention that to say, it’s probably better to have Mitch hurt now and healthy later for the playoffs. Still puzzled people still want to trade him. KAT playing too many minutes shouldn’t be an issue right now but hopefully he can get some rest down the regular stretch to be ready for the playoffs is all.
Besides that, everyone else nailed it. Really appreciate Jalen taking on the onus of being more of a true point for the sake of KAT. Aye aye Captain.

Yeah that was really horrible.

Im open to exploring it since this part of the season seems really experimental anyways. Was nice to see KAT his some middies today.
Lots of autotune

Idk why it would be unpopular. He’s one of the best offensive players in the NBA for almost a decade now.

Ignoring the first game of the season, OG and Josh are putting ok numbers these last 3 games
OG Anunoby
13.3 ppg
51.6% fg's on 10.3 fga/g
35.7% 3pt fg's on 4.7 3ga/g
1.7 spg
Josh Hart
15.3 ppg
50.0% fg's on 10.7 fga/g
31.3% 3pt fg's on 5.3 3pa/g
90.0% ft's on 3.3 fta/g
12.3 rpg
3.7 apg
1.7 spg
Blocks are weak for OG at 0.3 bpg, but at least the steals are high. Rebounds might not improve much because Josh gets them all. I also don't see OG getting much more than 10 shot attempts a game. OG is the 31st highest paid player in the NBA (2nd highest on the Knicks).
I feel like the money is incentive for OG to focus on defense more than offense. It might bum OG out to take a backseat to Bridges and even Hart getting more shot attempts, but OG is being paid enough to not be unhappy about it.
Mikal might be the better offensive player, but Josh might get an all-star nod over him if the Knicks get 3 allstar selections this season. 15 and 12 for Josh is undeniable if he keeps it up all season.

I had free trial on YouTube and nothing worked.
The NBA Android TV app has been working just fine so far in the EU (specifically, Spain and Netherlands). Actually, it has been working great now that they no longer make you watch commercials at the start of each game.
But I have not yet tried live streams, only replays. The "All Possessions" feature is an awesome idea, they just need to tinker it a bit further, so that it does not occasionally miss some live-ball episodes.

Another decent x and o breakdown of game. Heat shaded multiple defenders towards wherever Brunson was often in this game. They were basically saying Brunson was not going to beat us. This game screamed opportunity for another player to have a huge game and KAT did not disappoint.

Good post. Mikal should be the clear #3 option behind Brunson/Big Bodega. However Hart and OG certainly have enough offensive game not to be Jared Jeffries or Elfrid Payton out there either.
OG should not be a guy relied on too much offensively unless he is on and hitting 3s. He is not an explosive or sudden finisher and rarely finishes well when highly contested. But when on he can hit multiple 3s and be an opportunistic finsher at the rim with the occasional drive to the hoop if coverage is shifted elsewhere.
Hart is a bit more explosive and sudden than OG but his medium/long range shot is a bit more erratic. But when on he can make some fairly high difficulty shots and his fast break game is elite. He is a very good finisher at the rim and a tenecious junk yard dog type player on offense.
These two are a great complement to the 'big 3' of Brunson/KAT/Mikal
As far as the OG money is was kind of right place, right time. He had all the leverage and decided to play hard ball with us. You can argue he is a tad overpaid depending on your view of the value of defense. Because if you value defense like Thibs does than OG is worth every penny. The run we went on last year after getting him was no fluke.

He's always going to be a great defender against most teams, aside from the league's two giants (Embiid and Jokic).
But the league's drifting away from the midrange and it's still his bread and butter.
He needs to extend his range to 3-point territory or develop a post-up game. I have very little faith in the latter, but he has shooting touch and he needs to adapt.
The league's becoming unforgiving to midrange scorers unless they're uber-efficient, which he's not. That's why his league-adjusted scoring efficiency has been trending downwards for the last 3 seasons, even dropping to below league-average. He needs to adapt as the league evolves.
I disagree highly. When they let Bam do his thing, they went to the finals twice. Now he's mainly doing hand offs and standing in a corner and taking 3's (which is what the "modern" nba wants you to do") and it made them a much worse team. They went away from what made them so good as a team. You're just wasting Bam's talent with the new role he's in. They're trying to copy other teams and it isn't working.
He's only attempting two 3s per game. It's really not a lot for a jumpshooter.
I think the issue with Bam is that his offensive skill set is becoming increasingly ineffective and irrelevant with how the NBA's moving.
It's not that he regressed. But the NBA's evolving at a rapid pace while his skill set is largely staying the same.
But he was never an offensive force to begin with. Good offensive player, but his impact always came mostly on defense, where he has always been stellar outside of a couple of matchups.
Bam has skill but the reality's that those midrange jumpshots have limited value nowadays, and that value is dropping every year because the efficiency landscape around him is changing.
Chokic let his country down while bam shut him down Chahell!

The people that comment on KAT and say he’s a #1 option clearly never saw this dude play a meaningful period of time. He plays soft defensively and stays out on the perimeter more often than not for his size. He’s also not a playoff performer, partly because of the increased physicality in the playoffs. Some of us have watched KAT play plenty. Which is why we hold the opinion that he’s soft.
Let us hope a new uniform and a more gritty city and team culture change his mentality.

It is true he has been inconsistent in the things you mention. But he has especially last year shown a higher level of toughness in his game including in the playoffs. He by no means is consistent (yet) in this area but to me he is still an upgrade overall to Randle in terms of team fit and complement playing alongside Jalen Brunson .

It might just be a 1 game sample size but it looks like he’s transitioned from Bargs to now destined to be King of NY and lead us to a ring. If everyone is nice to me I won’t pull the last several years of receipts of KAT slander I’ve read during the Leon era since the trade rumors started we can just forget it ever happened!

There were basically 5 main guys that I believed the Knicks had decent to high level interest (that I thought we might be able to get)
Those 5 were:
KAT
Mitchell
OG
Bridges
And Murray
With Murray and Mitchell it was more a guy to play off Brunson and take pressure off him constantly being beat up taking the ball up court and allowing him to play off ball a little more.
Well we ended up with the other 3!
Amazing.
KAT will potentially be phenomenal for us and his floor should still be a better fitting piece overall than the defensively defieicnt and playoff bumbling Randle.

It's funny you mentioned Murray as a player who wanted specifically to bring it up court and let Brunson play off ball because I think over time, as this roster gels, that is what they are going to ask Hart and potentially Payne to do playing next Brunson. They might also look to play for that player if someone becomes available.
