Re: Paolo out indefinitely!!
Dude is going to be out for half the season (a YouTube NBA doctor said), so I think it seems like we should tank for Flagg.

Re: Paolo out indefinitely!!
I literally heard 46 when listening to the sixth man show short. My heart stopped and almost cried. It's 4 to 6. Its gonna be a challenge for the team tho, lets see what this team is prepared to. Wish the best recovery to Paolo!

Do we see how the cards fall or do we make a trade for someone like Jerami Grant. A 4 that can also slide to the 3 once Paolo is back. Grant, Cam Johnson, Kuzma, DFS etc. Spitballing here

Non.
Holmgren missed one whole year and he will get same contract like Paolo.
There is no stipulations from nba under what conditions, or amount of games player needs to play to be eligible for max. Esencially, you can sign Caleb Houstain on rookie max exstension if you want to.
Only exception to max are uber-mega stars who become eligible for Derrick Rose rule, if they
- win MVP award
- become all nba team memebers twice
- started on two allstar game
In that case, their max rookie exstension jumps to 30% of salary cap instead of 25%.

Re: Paolo out indefinitely!!
Wow.
4 to 6 weeks before he can be reevaluated doesn't mean he will be back in 4 to 6 weeks.
Given type of injury, i highly doubt injury was result of some play that you can find and lay fingers on by watching replays,
If you google and read some comments, people and doctors say it's sharp sudden pain and feels like knife stabbing in your rib cage.
it is also possible that he will have to do surgery.
We won't see him playing again in 2024, that's a given.
But before we start jumping off cliffs into a abyss of agony and depression, let's use time ahead to actually improve as a team.
For start, sideline Franz until he recovers and regains his stamina. Over past two games he looked like how my 6'8-270 pounds friend looked like after playing basketball for first time in 5 years, first he looked like he will have heart attack , later that night he got hemorrhoids from stress
He is young, should be fine in few days or week at most.
Winning should still be priority, you won't win 50 games, that's a given, i thought they won't win 47-50 games before season started and that step back was going to happen regardless.
There is still enough talent to keep team around 7-10th spot before Banchero returns and be playin team.
Remember folks, last year injuries turned 76ers and Heat into playin teams, Knicks at one point lost 3/5 starters. Injuries in NBA are normal. You can't just throw away season every time your star player rolls his ankle.

I thought if he didn't make it this season and gave him the max in July, it wouldn't be the super max. So you saying even after he signs the max, it could flip to the super max later? I think Tatum didn't get the super max until he's second contract.ORLMagicGirl15 wrote:Rainwater wrote:Could someone confirm but is there a chance that Paolo just lost some money here. Team will still be too good to get flagg so we can't tank. We are looking at either barely squeezing into the play in or just outside of it picking 10-14

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Re: Paolo out indefinitely!!
Some musings after sleeping on it:
- This is terrible for the vibe around the team, but any talks of a tanking season is way premature (this road trip is about to get brutal, though). Also it just hit me that this basically kills our In-Season Tournament, if anyone cared about that. We will still defend like hell, and Jonathan Isaac is about to get a huge opportunity, which leads to:
- JI's health is now more key than ever to keep us competitive, if he can consistently give us 28-30 minutes per night starting, we can still compete with most teams. Sadly with his history, that's far from guaranteed. But I liked the flashes of offense I saw from him last year.
- There's an opportunity for the entire rest of the roster, too. Especially the front-court guys and more offensively orientated guys. There's much more minutes, shots and ball possessions to go around now, and we'll get to learn what we have with the rest of our players. We'll see a lot more from guys like Franz, Moe, Tristan da Silva (hopefully KCP), Jett & AB. Franz should set a goal for himself to make the all star game this season. If they can develop and be empowered in this period, we could be stronger than ever whenever Paolo comes back.
- Maybe this gets coach Mose and the assistant coaches to actually evolve our offensive scheme, instead of putting Paolo in very difficult situations and hope he bails us out. We won't just learn more about our other players now, but our head coach, too.
- I think we can hover around .500 with Paolo out, but that will require us to stay otherwise very healthy. That should hopefully enable us to still fight for the play-in and/or the lower playoff seeds, hopefully. Now, if other injuries start hitting us, our season is pretty much cooked and we can start revisiting tankathon. At least this draft is supposed to be pretty good.
- In terms of my own mood, I'm very bummed but not quite devastated. I still plan to watch a lot of games and support the team. Hopefully others, Franz especially, step up. What's really killing is that it's not "out 4-6 weeks", but "indefinitely, reevaluated in 4-6w". It's the uncertainty that's really a huge dampener. I'm hopeful we can see Paolo back around Christmas, but for all we know he could be out much longer and it could derail his entire season or more, in the worst case scenario. Lord knows our training staff hasn't been exactly great at getting players recovered from injuries, it feels like it usually takes longer than other teams to me.

No such thing as supermax rookie scale exstension, just Derrick Rose rule.
Supermax can only sign players with 7-9 years of nba experience + fit into at least one of stipulations such as
MVP award winner, winnging two DPOYs etc.
Supermax makes 35% of salary cap.
Rookie exstension under Rose rule 30% of cap
Normal max 25% of cap

True. I call everything supermax, my bad. But Paolo still have a chance to get it.

Pepe explained it but yeah, he still have a chance. You’re right about the supermax. I mean Paolo can still get Franz Wagner’s contract with the max extension language that is in Franz’ contract. If Franz make an all-nba team I believe he gets more money and he is in his 4th year.
