Joel Embiid: I've Done Way Too Much For Philadelphia For People To Be Questioning Will To Play

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 2, 2024 2:15 am

Joel Embiid was a full participant in Friday's practice with the Philadelphia 76ers, which included a 5-on-5 scrimmage. Embiid discovered minor swelling in his surgically repaired left knee during training camp in the Bahamas. Both Embiid and the Sixers are managing and monitoring the knee.

"Everybody has been on the same page," Embiid said at the 76ers' New Jersey complex. "If your body doesn't react well, and if your body tells you one thing [sit out]. I've done it. From what I can tell you, I've broken my face twice, I came back early with the risk of losing my vision. I have broken fingers. I still came back. When I see people say, 'He doesn't want to play,' I've done way too much for this city, putting myself at risk, for people to be saying that."

Embiid has played in 433 of a possible 805 regular season games since his first full season in 2016.

"I wish I was as lucky as other ones," Embiid said. "But that doesn't mean I'm not trying and I'm not doing whatever it takes to try to be out there, which I'm going to be here pretty soon."

Embiid said he could return on their three-game West Coast road trip.

"Really it's being comfortable, trusting it," Embiid said. "I want to be at my best. I don't want to be in a situation where I'm like, I'm afraid if I do something or whatever [I get hurt again]. I mentioned it since my last surgery; it was probably the toughest mentally. Mentally, I'm just dealing with getting that trust back. In the past, it was just easy."

Well he hasn’t done it for free. That said, they may have paid him way too much for him to be questioning the people from Philadelphia.

They owe why?
Hey all those rings he has for Philly. No
All the times he got them in the Finals. No
They do not owe. They were patient with you early in your career.

People can question the priorities.

Is it him choosing to play this summer instead of his day job?
His lack of conditioning.
He never tried to drop 30 pounds to reduce the strain on his knees.

Embiid has made his choices. Now deal with people being annoyed with you.

i understand the frustrations with joel, i really do. but im not sure most fans understand what it means to be a pro athlete. these guys aint robots. would you go to work at your dayjob with broken limbs, torn ligaments or a broken face? especially if your job requires those bodyparts to perform well. yes, you can sit at the office or work remote with broken fingers. but thats not all jobs.

Being an NBA player is not a regular day job, as much as people wanna make that argument it just isnt. do they get paid ungodly amounts of dollars? yes they do! but a lot of them cant even sit upright after their playing career. they are legit destroying their bodies. not everybody has the genetics of a lebron james or other once in a lifetime type of athletes from the NFL, Soccer or whatever. not to mention you almost completely sacrifice quality family time and stuff like that with that NBA Schedule. also i wouldnt hold playing in the summer against him. especially international players value international play a lot higher than american players (on average) and he never played in an international tournament before, if i recall correctly. if thats one of his lifelong dreams, how can we be mad about that at a player?
im bout dat action boss

Only playing in 54% of games over 8 years is wild. And he missed 2 seasons prior to playing his first game.

All those people can complain because it those hard working people paying exorbitant prices for tickets and swag that makes Joel 45+ million a year: more money a year than those hard working people will see in a lifetime.

Take the money - take the heat.

If it's so terrible they can always retire, mutually terminate their contract and live the simple life. Poor guys.
