Does DeRozan deserve to get his jersey retired?

Does DeRozan get his jersey retired?
We are a championship franchise. There are standards that come with that for getting jersey retired. At least have to contribute to championship or franchise at a MVP level. Records in points and assists or whatever will be broken.

I think so. Spent 9 years with us. Easily a top 5 Raptor of all time. All Star, All NBA. Raptors leader in pts, which likely won't be broken for a while. He and Kyle were responsible for some of the best stretches in Raptors hx.

There have been worse jerseys retired from different franchises.

No Demar never really had a strong case other than loyalty and he’s kinda messed that up after the trade with the negative raptor talk.

I'd say yes. VC, Demar, and Kyle. Draw the line there.

Then we'll have to hope that one or two of the current young guys get to that level someday. But that's still about 12-15 years off.

NO.

It's honestly absurd. He is literally one of the worst high value postseason performers, of all time. His playoff career as a raptor is SO BAD. He barely has a league average PER, and was sporting a .500 playoff TS%

He wasn't even an especially great regular season player, he was never a top 10 guy, he was a fringe all-nba guy, and compiled a lot of All star appearance due to the weak eastern conference.

As far as I can tell the only reason to retire his number is compiled a lot of points, and journalists REALLY REALLY like him.

it's honestly crazy. we have to have some standards and self respect. he's a "ring of honour" guy if we had one.
We shouldn't be retiring numbers because he gave really good quotes to journalists and he compiled meaningless points and flamed out in the playoffs every year.

I think he should for sure. Drake’s popularity is crumbling anyways, by the time it happens he won’t be able to afford tickets to tear down any banners.

Based on play? No. He was an absolute choke artist and frankly let us down more than any other player in our franchise history.

In terms of longevity? Most likely, he leads multiple categories for us.

Carter got his jersey retired literally because people like the way he made them feel. He won absolutely nothing and then basically screwed the team for the next decade.

Demar took us from a laughingstock to the ECF and then was traded for the piece that won it all.

Demar lifted the Raptors up. Carter destroyed the Raptors. I don't care how pretty he looks when he dunks.

If Carter jersey is retired we have to retire Demar because he contributed to much more team success which I thought is the point of retiring a jersey.

While not advocating for Demar, the consensus here is Kyle gets in (I agree) but he was the same choke artist as DD and then got Kawhai. They are a package deal I think and represent the We the North era which is is the first maintained successful period of the franchise.

He will so whether he deserves it or not becomes a moot point.

I think an interesting one is Bosh who basically has zero chance because he chose to leave and his teams sucked but he was a really good player here and a legit AS 5 years in a row. I think he would have had a good case if he left under different circumstances.

I loved his loyalty and work ethic but I did not like his shot selections or playoff performances.

I think Bosh is a no as well. He didn't lead the team to any big wins or build culture. I think you need at least one of those things, along with All Star accolades and things of that nature.

He's also a weird case because the current player I'm sure we all hope eventually deserves to be up there wears the same jersey number.

If Carter got it pretty sure Demar has accomplished more as a Raptor and even holds records. But overall, the jersey retirement thing is whatever. Hall of fame is more important.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Yeah but Lowry was still a positive on the court.

Demar has the worst +/- in NBA HISTORY in the playoffs. He wasn’t just bad, he was historically bad lol.

1. Carters cultural impact is orders of magnitude greater. He literally kick started an entire generation of Canadian hoopers, that is in no way comparable to Demar, who was just a fringe all NBA guy who made a bunch of all star teams because the eastern conference was week.

2. Demar didn't take us to anything, Lowry did, he was along for the ride. There a reason out best lineups at the time all featured Lowry, there's a reason the Lowry+bench units were so effective. Lowry was the best player. Demar was a compiler who got a bunch of points inefficiently and was terrible in the playoffs every year.
