Write a hit piece about an athlete and be surprised that they take exception to their dead brother being used as a negative point. I live by a simple code, I don't say things about peoples dead relatives because I believe it could get me punched in the face, whether justified or not. And guess what? Nobody has punched me in the face.

Check the comments, it's not just me, once people found out the why behind the assault it's basically split down the middle.

If no one’s punched you in the face you’re really missing out on important life event  explaining what drives a player is important information, even if it’s in an article that critical about him. Like I said in the last post, I would have found in endearing if this became common knowledge some other way and not after an assault. It wasn’t an attack on his family but the standard that Embiid has set for himself. Embiid’s inability to stay in shape or be healthy is a major issue and it’s holding him back from being truly great. It sounds like another reporter in the locker room said the guy that wrote this article apologized when they were yelling at each and Embiid still attacked him.

I grew up boxing, I don't need to get punched in the face for the things I say, it's happened enough recreationally. Other reporters are saying Hayes was wrong, you just don't touch on family, it's not that difficult to avoid. Embiid can be wrong, but you can't dictate how someone reacts to mentioning your dead brothers name and at the end of the day it was just a shove, Hayes will live. The real failure here is that the Sixers allowed him to be in the same room with Embiid, that is organizational stupidity.

civility isn't on the menu when you use someone's grief in a hit piece.

A lot of people live in a world where they think freedom of speech means you're free from the consequences of how someone may react to those words

Right.

To be clear: No one should be assaulting anyone, but we're increasingly seeing people having difficulty understanding that their actions towards other people have consequences. Too many people feel indestructible now, probably due to social media, and they think they can just say or do anything without any kind of blow back.

For example, yesterday some moron walked up to Jason Kelce and called his brother a homophobic slur that rhymes with maggot. As you can imagine, it didn't go well for that guy

Embiid is a prick, we all saw what he did to Mitch's ankle in the playoffs, and he shouldn't be putting his hands on someone, but I tend to think that if you're using someone's dead relative in a hit piece against them, you have to accept the fact that you might just get your ass beaten for doing so.

It doesn't make it right and I'm sure that there will be charges filed against him, and rightfully so. But you may want to be mindful that not everyone is going to be civil once certain lines are crossed.

Yeah that's definitely crossing a red line.

You can come up with multiple different ways to sh*t on Joel Embiid for his unprofessionalism and not being in shape without talking about either his dead brother or his child. It's not only lazy writing, it's a lack of class, ethics, and frankly empathy for another human being. I think Embiid is a dick hole but that's strictly basketball....what would possess anyone to take things this far?

Again, I'm not condoning or excusing Embiid's response. If you assault someone, you're at the mercy of the legal system. That's how this works. But the legal system, or the 1st amendment, does not protect people from getting their teeth knocked out for being an ass hole to someone else.

It is what it is

Wemby's DNA needs to be checked to make sure he's actually a human.

Our championship window is closing fast. I think we need to win it all this year or bust.

Look at that roster... many of us on here could have coached that team to a title. Rondo was the perfect PG along with arguably the greatest shooter SG in Ray. Arguably one of the best PFs in KG. Beeetch Pierce and Perkins. Bench... PJ Brown, Posey, great defender in Tony Allen. Big baby Davis. Freaking team was stacked and many say Cassell (on the roster) was the real coach along with Garnett holding everyone accountable.

Somehow Rivers got credit. I'll never understand it

Same with Embiid. I get it, it's an emotional response, but once it's over we can say maybe that was a bit much.

Wemby hasn't even leveled up yet. How good can he really become?

I'm a believer that two wrongs don't make a right, but one wrong could get you punched in the face so best to avoid the first wrong to begin with.

Not just out of fear for repercussions but for basic decency, but also for self preservation if principles don't resonate with you.

Yeah pretty much. Heat of the moment stuff happens, and when it's over you realize that none of it is worth it because the end result is exactly this: You make absolutely garbage people the victim now while you're the one taking legal and professional heat for roughing them up or saying stuff to them that you probably don't wanna be caught saying in public.
