I’ll confidently declare this the win-win trade I had expected and, lately, hoped it would be.
I’m glad to see Randle’s efficiency and at the same time glad to see Towns easily outperforming expectations so far. Now I sincerely hope to meet them in the Finals. They are my two favorite teams in the league.

i wouldnt say exceeded expectations yet. 2 stinkers, 1 good game and 1 great game.
he averaged 9.3 shots per game before this night, that is bad.. pretty bad. Is it his fault? Probably not entirely, its also on brunson and thibs to get him shots and get him going.
We need this KAT every night or at least most nights for this trade to be a win for us. If KAT is only great 25% of the time its a bad look ngl.
Its only 4 games but Melo and randle would have been killed on this board, if they shot less than 10 shots. so no, KAT did not exceed expectations so far.
im bout dat action boss

Thibs needs to find his niche defensively that's the most important thing. The points will come, he has been a 20+ scorer almost every year of his career and on ultra-high efficiency.

Early numbers on the Wolves are not good, while Randle is getting his the rest of the team basically can't do anything and their once mighty defense that was 1 in the league is currently 19th which is worse than ours
They're gonna have to bench Conley, pray McDaniels can find his shot again and play Naz Reid more, by the numbers they are simply better when Naz plays instead of Randle. Right now, the advanced stats hate this team, they're -1.2 net rating, where as even with our blowout loss we're +7.4

They have three problems going, one is that Conley serves no purpose in the starting 5 if you're going to have Randle be the secondary creator, 2 is that McDaniels shot left him which is making him and Randle an awful pairing and 3 is that Randle is not a good defender, they're giving up 122 DRTG when he's on the court, and 101 DRTG when he's off, they're -15.1 net rating with him on the floor. For all the flack KAT caught, you can't teach size, and having a 7'0" PF next to a 7'2" C goes a long way.

Considering the conversations (if you want to call them that) I’ve had in these types of threads over the past, say, 8-10 months, this is kinda refreshing to hear
When I recall with how much agitation I was baited and attacked for assessments of Towns and Randle, all apparently very accurate in hindsight, it is just mind-boggling and eye-opening…

That On/Off Court Defensive differential is gnarly. We knew it from experience, but to see it from afar just makes me thankful he's some other team's problem now.
We pretty much stole KAT from them, because maybe now they won't be able to trade Randle to anyone else and will have to just let him walk rather than risk giving him a large deal. Crazy how this is turning out. Leon Rose did good

We may have offered Mitch, but the inference from articles was they wanted Donte instead

Considering the conversations (if you want to call them that) I’ve had in these types of threads over the past, say, 8-10 months, this is kinda refreshing to hearI have to admit that. So far I am low key rooting for the Wolves to ultimately win the West, so even though I don’t care too much, I do in a way hope they can right the ship. Randle, while apparently still an easy-going dude, just isn’t a winning player to me, so I would consider Dallas stronger, and OKC too. I don’t know about Phoenix or Denver yet, but I’m somehow still rooting for the Wolves for now.
When I recall with how much agitation I was baited and attacked for assessments of Towns and Randle, all apparently very accurate in hindsight, it is just mind-boggling and eye-opening…
I'm not rooting for or against him, and I'll pretty much only watch the Wolves when they play on national television. He's posting gaudy numbers, but when you stop and look at what's going on with them it's not a good sign. You have Anthony taking an obscene amount of threes because the paint is more crowded, even with Randle shooting well from three he doesn't take them from the distance KAT took them. KAT took 4 threes per game last year from 25-29 feet, Randle takes 1.5, so the floor balance is different. KAT has to be accounted for when he doesn't have the ball, he needs a defender standing out there with him even if he doesn't have the ball cause he will fire it up from 30. Naz however takes them at a rate similar to KAT, which is why they've been better with him on the floor. Also, because Randle is on the ball more than Conley, they're averaging slightly less assists per game than they did last year, even though Randle is supposed to be a better playmaker, he's just not good off the ball so he needs it in his hands which takes it out of the hands of an actual PG.
I don't think it's a win win trade, long term I would bet on Donte being on that team, and they took a step back from contender to a team that probably doesn't get out the first round.

Randle has looked great so far. They just beat a championship contender in Denver on Friday and Randle was the key to their win. Should continue to get better.

They're not happy with DDV's slow start but they like his hustle. They're happy with Randle's offensive output, but they hate his defense and don't feel he could play alongside Reid as they've been getting killed in those minutes. They all seem to agree that their team this season has so far looked worse overall than their contending team of last season... but it's still early of course.
Most are disappointed in the regression they're seeing from McDaniels, Conley and Reid.

Thanks for the recap. Sounds discouraging, but there was going to be a drop-off of some kind without KAT.

That is right on!! I like his offense and his quickness inside. He has good moves inside. The problem is he is a matador on defense. Kat is a far, far better defender. No wonder Thibs wanted Kat so bad. Obviously, He can't shoot like Kat either. Getting DD in the deal made it a wash trade overall. And then there is the apron and the money involved which was the bottom line. My guess is Rudy signing the extension for quite a bit less has been in the mix before the Kat trade.
Finch has to ride Randle's azz to force him to be a much better defender. I'm not sure even Finch can do that.
Randle looks exactly as you said, not a serious player on that end. He wants to take the easy way out defensively. I bet that drove Thibs nuts. Of course, anything that drives Thibs nuts makes me happy all over.

Still early of course but Randle doesn't play defense much . KAT at least tries. I think KATS team fit here is better than Randle provided we add a bit more rim protection (when matchups call for it). Achiuwa will help there but the preference is like a Poetl or Kessler.

Most Minny fans are more excited about Randle offense right now (rather than disappointed in his defense). I can see that changing if we still have a middling record after a couple weeks and fans are looking for who to blame.
I've never loved Randle's defense, but I didn't expect Towns to Randle would be such a dramatic drop off. Towns can be such an idiot defensively if forced to make decisions, but man what a difference effort makes. Towns tries his ass off and sometimes looks like an ass while doing so, but Randle too often looks like he has zero interest and is just waiting to sprint back to the other side of the floor.
