Lillard to Pelicans

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Mon Nov 4, 2024 8:22 am

Pelicans get Lillard
Lillard, Murray, Ingram, Zion, Missi -- Alvarado, Hawkins, Green, TM3, Theis
Pelicans upgrade CJ to his counterpart in Lillard. They get more firepower on offense and still maintain some nice wings.

Bucks get CJ, Herb, MIL27FRP, MIL26swap
CJ, Herb, Middleton, Gianis, BroLo -- Delon, GTJ, Connaughton, Prince, Portis
Bucks get their picks back if they want to entertain Giannis trades and I don't think they get much worse by changing 1 rotation player for 2.

The Milwaukee 27 1st is part of a "best of/worst of" with Atlanta. New Orleans gets the more favorable with the other going to Atlanta.

Murray was TERRRIBLE at SG with the Hawks. Moving him to SG is a massive downgrade in terms of fit for the Pels. I also don't see how they justify moving Herb for this (in addition to potentially interesting picks).

Can Dame return this kind of package now? I feel like he can’t. I could be wrong but I don’t think you can get first round picks back…maybe one.

Feels like a huge overpay considering how Dame has looked, his age, and contract.

I don’t see the Pelicans bailing out the Bucks especially with the tax implications and the potential of the picks. Zero chance Pels give up Herb too. That would absolutely crater their defense.

Bucks are going to be stuck with Dame or they are going to have to take way less.

Id def do it. I think Dame's issue is more he doesn't actually want to be in Milwaukee and has been poor fit with Giannis, IDK if New Orleans is any better for Dame personally but its closer to Miami than Milwaukee. If Dame was in Miami he'd be a 30ppg scorer, I don't think he's fallen off there.

Dame is not the direction the pelicans should be going. Also, I'd rather have CJ and Herb than Dame at this point

It's an FRP and a swap.

I do think Lillard has lost some value.
Lillard would have been worth CJ+Herb+3xFRPs a year ago.

It’s an unprotected FRP + swap from a seemingly dysfunctional small market team with limited avenues for improvement + Herb + CJ. Dame might have been worth Herb/CJ/3 FRP’s coming from Portland though I doubt the Pelicans would have paid it, but values can change quickly especially for an aging small guard.

Beal was worth a ton after 20-21, much less so in 22-23. Dame is now 34, showing decline, and still owed $112M+ over the next 2 years.

Just for tax purposes, I cannot see any interest in Dame from the Pelicans. If the Bucks want control of their picks back, then they likely need to move Giannis and send the Pels a player that fits better (Jalen Williams?).

Maybe Dame gets them a player of that caliber from someone else that they can route to the Pels, but I don’t really see it.
