no, it was FVV not re-signing that broke Masai's heart and kick started this delayed rebuild

I was going to say that actually, but they are one in the same ultimately since that was his last Raptors game.

thankfully Fred left, so that we didn't just keep delaying this rebuild.

The young (or youngish) useable talent is starting to pile up, which will be big for building a proper bench and filling some key starting positions, while also being flexible enough to include some guys in trades. If the Raps can hit on their own pick in '25 (or '26), the Raps could have a very interesting team soon.

Mitchell: 26
Quickley: 25
Barrett: 24
Ochai: 24
Mogbo: 23
Battle: 23
Barnes: 23
Shead 22
Walter 20
Dick 20
Chomche 18
2025 1st pick Raptors
2025 2nd pick Blazers
2026 1st pick Raptors
2026 1st pick Pacers
2026 2nd pick Raptors
All their own picks from 2027 on

Yes indeed. What is noticeable is lack of BIGS...

And not only is Bruce Brown still here but he's also not playing.

Low picks have been pretty ok but it's only 4 games in, so hard to get too excited and at the end of the day, they don't really move the needle either way.

So my grade doesn't move much from offseason. Voted F on an instinct but could also give him D.

we were stuck in no mans land but with a core getting a little into their primes (and more).

now we are relatively young squad with upside based on the growth of these young players. we aren't expecting to win a lot of games until
1. everyone is healthy
2. maybe 1 more lottery level talent.
3. growth of the young core

We will not be in position to contend for anything until we get another talent of significance besides Barnes at minimum or the core and young players collectively take a significant step forward. They either have to significant play below their current roster level to tank to get that top talent or continue to suffer serious injuries to their core, which would raise questions about their long-term durability, or get very very very lucky with whoever they end up picking. And/or at least a few of the existing players including RJ/Quickley/Dick have to end out significantly better than they've shown. I know some of our young players have impressed thus far but we are still way too early in the season and given how low the expectations are, that's still not nearly enough.

Unfortunately, we are still very far out from any of these things happening so we are still stuck. This FO gets no benefit of doubt from me as that's been eroded over the last little while with mismanagement.
