Gregg Popovich suffered a health issue before the San Antonio Spurs' game on Saturday and will be away from the team for an indefinite period. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson is expected to serve as interim head coach for the Spurs in Popovich's absence.
Johnson played collegiately at Stanford before a professional career in the G League and in Europe.
Johnson first became an assistant coach with the Spurs in 2016 and moved to the front of the bench in 2020.
