Giannis to Miami coulda been signed, sealed and delivered when we had cap space. That was the time for it to happen.
Now, wed have to trade anything of value for him and have a lineup of Butler and Giannis leftover.

Imagine. Swipe just Giannis with Bam, and we immediately become the top 3 in the East. Giannis, Butler, Herro, Terry, Jaime, and the rest.
I love Bam, but Giannis is that much better than Bam. And Dame's not being much of a help there. Basketball isn't all about offensive numbers

Re: 2024-25 Regular Season Thread Vol. 1
Getting Dame is a lot more realistic than Giannis. Miami is always used as a media trade pawn. Giannis can say Miami only and it still won’t happen. We are still dealing with limited draft picks to trade and teams still prefer the picks rather than the young talent we have unless they are showing star qualities. Teams want to draft their players. We just saw Bridges go for 5 picks. If Giannis is available they are teams that will throw in every single pick in there cupboard.

Can we help facilitate a Giannis trade and get out from under Duncan and Rozier?

Probably not due to being pressed up against the second apron. No teams with space are just going to take in Robinson or Rozier without compensation. We essentially paid a 1st for Rozier to save 14 million in tax. That’s that quiet part of that whole Rozier trade.

Duncan, Rozier, Jovic, and Bryant match Giannis' salary exactly....
Id love to see what this roster would look like if we moved on from these guys. Weve got too many dudes who deserve PT right now.

We will be looking for another cut the tax Rozier deal. Currently 14 million over with an estimated 27 million dollar bill. When Rozier and Lowry swap happened the Hornets absorbed 7.5 million that in turn deducted the tax bill by 14.8 million. The protected first was the cost of doing that type of business. Heat’s POV was they got a starter at PG in place of Lowry and saved a ton of money.

The rope needs to let go and Butler needs to be dealt. Not going to extend him and don’t want him opting in next year either at that bloated salary. A few feel good wins should not change the thinking. If by some miracle Butler assets can be flipped for Giannis you do it but this may be a next year thing.

The clear move is to move Duncan for a more needed position. Maybe for Cameron Johnson.
I don't want Dame here. It's going to be Lowry 2.0 - over the hill overpay.
26-5-7 on great efficiency as a 2nd option seems pretty damn good to me lol Lowry was never on Dames level, ever.
Everyone who didn’t want Dame a couple summers ago when he wanted Miami because of his age and contract were wrong
"26-5-7 on great efficiency as a 2nd option" is helping an MVP caliber player to 1-5 record. Nice, lol
Outside of the 2 and sometimes Portis the team is ass and their 3rd best player is always injured. Oh and Doc Rivers/Darvin Ham are the coaches

Giannis will go to the Warriors, Dame will finally get his wish of Miami. Patrick Riley is not one to disappoint, he WILL get it done

Rockets would be my clear favorite depending on how much they value Butler.

Bucks were pretty damn good until Giannis had them fire Griffin last year for that bum Doc. Didn’t they start 34-13 majority of the time being without Middleton?

It’s more likely we get Dame at a discounted price tag to finally have a Dame/Jimmy/Bam run this season.

Right now, OKC would wreck their roster to meet the salary requirements. After Dec 15th they may think about it but I doubt they do it unless they get him somewhat cheap in assets.
As of now, OKC is set up to keep rolling over/trade current draft picks that they don't need for future (and possibly more) assets in the future while only keeping them when they expect a player they want/need on a cheap rookie contract is available. It's the first time I can remember a team in this type of situation.
I agree with mh_3 that Giannis to Miami has almost no chance of happening; the caveat is if he specifically requests to go to Miami and Milwaukee decides to honor his request.
OKC would be stupid to trade for Giannis, imo. Team chemistry is fragile, so why add a #1 option at the expense of breaking up an already really good roster? The lessons from around the league are stark. Look at the incredible damage the Clippers and the Nets have done to their franchises chasing after stars. Milwaukee decided to break up their championship-level team to add Dame. Philadelphia got bailed out of the Harden fiasco by Maxey's rise. Minnesota may have blown up a good thing moving Towns for Randle.
True, Giannis isn't a diva like many of the guys involved in the previous paragraph, but that would miss the point. The teams that have recently made deep runs have generally done so with smaller acquisitions. Miami via undrafted players, Boston adding White and Porzingis, New York adding Hart and Divincenzo (and notably without Robinson and Randle), Denver by adding KCP and Bruce Brown, Dallas by adding Daniel Gafford, DJJ, Lively, and PJ Washington. Perhaps the best example of this in the last 20 years was San Antonio passing up trading Tony Parker for Jason Kidd.
Sometimes trading for stars is a poisoned chalice.

Milwaukee ain’t honoring chit trading him to Miami. Maybe just maybe they’ll trade Dame for the much younger hometown kid Herro with Rozier attached after they trade Giannis for a record breaking pick haul.

This is about the Giannis/Milwaukee situation, he does mention Brooklyn and Miami as destinations Giannis would want.
