Donte signed for the MLE and that seems like a reasonable floor for NAW. The MLE starts at $14.1M next year I believe with the increasing cap so it's not like that's an insignificant amount. Who will have cap space to offer more? The Wiz, Nets, Pistons, Hornets, and Spurs have some space, but will they want to use it to pay more than the MLE for a guy who is good, but it pretty clearly a role player? Would NAW want a little more money at the expense of going somewhere that's a lot further away from really winning? Will the Wolves even want to commit MLE money to NAW having drafted Shannon?

Two glaring holes that should have been fixed when we traded Karl, backup C and backup PG. Two positions that are crushing us.

It’s starting pg play that is crushing the wolves, Conley has looked cooked.

Kessler is really bad, he’s been dominated by every center he’s played against this season.

I don't disagree, but if they had addressed it with the quality backup, then that person might be able to step into the starting position and Conley could go to backup. Realistically speaking, the amount of turnovers isn't necessarily on Conley either.

Can anyone who is familiar with the cap rules better than me explain if they are able to sign any players? Could they release players and then sign others? For example for the minimum. Could they sign Fultz and say Moses Brown for minimums?

I disagree partially. Mike still have the best ratio Assist-To by far and able to make some steal more than others. Yes he shoot bad but our main problem is defense who is beyond bas at some part of the game.
But i agree partially as at this level, Mike should not start. DDV or NAW are better option.

I want Bol Bol or Day'ron Sharpe. Bol Bol is gonna get bullied, but his 7'8" wingspan cleans up a lot. And he can shoot and handle. I like it. Sharpe is the opposite, only 7'0" wingspan, but he's still a very active shot blocker. He also has some offensive skill, and he doesn't lose many rebounding battles. On the offensive glass especially, he goes insane.

He's been decent in the half court, not sure what you are on about. The Utah Jazz are playing some of the worst offense I've ever seen this year. Naturally that **** with transition, but in the actual half court, he's reading and denying shots.

The problem is there's no matching salary. We're still a 2nd apron team I believe, so no combining players, which means anyone we trade for either has to make 2.1mil or less (the Garza/Dozier bracket) or we have to give up someone we probably want to keep.

NAW is maybe a candidate for the latter but he's been one of the lone bright spots so far so I'd be loath to give him up, potential FA be damned.

EDIT: One candidate might be Duop Reath. He's on a 2mil contract, is buried in Portland, is significantly older than their core, and is matchable with Garza/Dozier. I imagine it costs us a 2nd or 2 but that might be worthwhile, the team has more young talent than they can reasonably do anything with anyway.

Here's something that'll make some of your heads spin...

Min out: McDaniels,Naw, Shannon Jr
In: Simons, Murray, Reath

Por out: Simons, Murray, Reath
In: McDaniels, Naw, Shannon Jr

MN
PG - Simons, Conley, Dilly
SG- Edwards, DD, Clark
SF- Murray, Minott, Ingles
PF- Randle, Naz, Miller
C - Gobert, Reath, Garza

Simons and Edwards....good luck. Let Conley run 2nd unit and key possessions late. Dilly develops.
Murray is all around solid, better offensively than McDaniels, but not the defender.
Reath perfect backup 5 for Rudy.

McDaniels heads back to Pacific Northwest. He and Avdiji with Ayton/Clingan would be great, NAW helps balance out their starting 5.

You trade two our best perimeter defenders? Why change completely our defensive identity?

Truthfully, it was a boredom trade. That said, Alexander Walker is leaving and I feel like DD is actually a solid defender but superior offensively. McDaniels so far hasn't played up to his contract, defensively when he's locked in and not fouling he is a force, but offensively, when he is off he is a liability.
Concerning all of that, I doubt we gave up enough value to get back with Portland would be giving us. But like I said, it was a boredom trade

Imagine having Rudy Gobert but managing a bottom 5 defense. That's what this trade would accomplish.

2 Ants and Julius Randle is a good offense, but not historical or anything. This trade makes us similar to the Sacramento Kings or Indiana Pacers.

Just a CBA note: Because of the apron, we can’t aggregate salaries, and we can’t take back more money than we send out. This means any trade won’t work legally if it has an incoming player with a higher salary than anyone we send out. Simons is out.

And since this trade is a good example, I will point out that it would be legal to trade NAW and Shannon for Murray and Reath, because it can be done without aggregation (NAW $4.3 for Kris Murray $3.0, and Shannon $2.5 for Reath $2.0)

Not sure what the wolves are going to do next but I think Jaden may be entering the "available" column vs the "untouchable" one he was in early. Similar to Towns, he fouls at an alarming rate. Not sure if it's just a bad whistle or poor technique at this point. He's also just too inconsistent on offense, which then leads to his confidence being shaken.

I'm also starting to believe his defense is slightly overrated. His screen navigation isn't the best and is too light for the bigger wing threats. It's hard to remove him from the starting lineup though because clearly no one else has overtaken him in practice and it would decrease our size heavily.

I'm also not sold on NAZ sliding into the starting 4 role either, even though he's a fan favorite. I know ppl are high on Rob as well but I just don't know. I prefer a bigger guard but time will tell with him.
