According to the series creator Deborah Cahn, she made the decision to have a shorter script this time round due to the tight deadline Netflix gave them to work with at the time. According to her, the idea to have a shorter run did not sit well with Netflix.

“It was my decision,” Cahn told TVLine, “[Netflix] was not happy. They wanted the full eight….I was really tired. It was a time thing. It felt like there wasn’t enough time to turn around eight of them. It was a lot to do in what appeared to be a short period of time.”

Having fewer episodes turned out to be hugely unnecessary because they later got an extension to match the industry standard of 18 months.

If Cahn had known from the start, fans would have gotten the full 8-episode package. “Had we known it was going to be a year and a half before we got back on the air, it would’ve been different,” Cahn said.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's funny, watching the second season it made me miss the days of 24 episode seasons. Packing such an insane amount of plot into six episodes was annoying but I can't say it wasn't incredibly entertaining.

Creator made a season 2 "trailer" even though there's currently no plans to have a season 2 anywhere. Such a bummer.

Tony Todd elevated whatever he was in and had a voice you'll never forget. RIP.

Arcane is such a beautiful show to look at that I’ve caught myself missing dialogue and had to go back and listen multiple times every episode.

Andy Greenwald is on point about this. It's absolutely bananas that the industry can no longer put out 8 episodes of a show in a year, let alone 22. I understand that lavish productions take more time, but c'mon. 18 months should not be the industry standard turnaround for 8 hours of TV.

Yea, I figured that would be the case. I wonder if everyone who got a year's sub for free is gonna get an email tomorrow saying whoops, your account has been cancelled.

My wife and I watched “It’s What’s Inside” (Netflix) this weekend. Kinda stupid but also an interesting concept. 6/10.

I stumbled across an Aussie spy/thriller series called Pine Gap. Only 6 episodes. It's about a surveillance base in the middle of the Outback manned by Aussies and Americans where a mole is releasing classified data while China and the US are about to at it in the South Pacific. Interesting premise.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

For the record, that's exactly what happened except no explanation was given.

Slow horses

I’m loving slow horses. Fetting caught up, I’m on season three episode three. Gary Oldman is incredible. He could be the most disgusting hero in television history. I feel like that dudes a gift. Rest of the cast is very likable as well and the stories, just enough to keep me entertained. Five out of five from me.

OH! ONE EXCEPTION. The slough house surveillance/psyop guy is creepy AF. Like a predator. But even that is a compliment to the writing, so…
Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

Late on this. What a blow. My wife and I have been going through a bit of a Star Trek phase - it's basically our default watch when nothing else is on - and Tony Todd has played multiple characters in TNG, Voyager, and DS9. And he's fantastic in all of them. I especially enjoyed him as older Jake Sisko. Of course, he had so many other great performances.

What a bummer. RIP.
