Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 3
People are commenting that he would have looked great in Orlando and in theory he'd be a perfect fit but how many franchises would have shelved him or given him a tiny leash after his early struggles?
Major credit to Gradey for putting in the work but credit is also due to the front office for putting him in a position to succeed.

Anthony Black in November shot 44/26/65. Not nearly as bad as Dick but Gradey still shot 12 for 12 FTs.
Well, he should win Most Improved Player this season.

The most impressive thing has been his gravity. The floor seems massive when he's in the game.
Teams are zoning in on him, and he's adjusting and scoring.

I think I've been most impressed watching him split defenders coming around screens. That isn't trivial to do.

the gravity is impacting his teammates too. So much attention is on him when he's on the floor which is opening up for other guys. Just by simple cuts and running, he's giving advantages to other guys

I personally love how he gets the ball and seemingly flies out of a jab step super quick. He knows what he wants to do and he just does it.
On inbound plays he is apparently automatic in the short corner on the right side fading out of bounds

Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 3
Even if he ends up as like a Kyle Korver with a bit more inbetween game we got an absolute steal.
What do we do when everyone is healthy? IQ/Dick/RJ/Barnes/Poeltl is likely the lineup, but I think we gotta do quick subs and always have 2 of the main 4 (IQ / Dick / RJ / Sct Brn) on the floor.

I think Gradey is Rip Hamilton 2.0. Rip doesn't have the handles and he was all about moving on offence constantly getting his shot.

Yeah, he is pretty confident in his various moves, and he seems to have something to do in each set he finds himself in, which is good.

At this point I think that's his floor.

If he keeps this up, tbh the only player in that draft I rather have is Wemby.
Belial is also having a great start, but his shooting percentages aren't sustainable at 60/47/79. Still a great prospect.
Miller is a year older and a very good shooter/scorer in his own right.
The thing is though, Gradey might just be an elite elite shooter.
But again, small sample size and all.
Scoot, no
Thompson twins, no.
Belial, maybe.
Miller, maybe
Wemby, obviously
Black, no
Walker, no
Hendrix, no
Lively, no, but good player
Jett, no
Bilal is a 2 way player, and he’s a year younger and much less refined. He’s gotta be #2.
Wemby
Bilal
Lively <elite defensive big potential>
Gradey
We have to know that Gradeys stats are inflated right now because SOMEONE has to take those shots. Remember when Mike James averaged 20 on the Raps?
Either way, Gradey looks like a top 5 pick. I also think one of the Thompson boys and Anthony Black will eventually break out into a star.
The bolded is irrelevant when both high volume and high efficiency meet up. No, not every player can just put up 21 PPG, on a 60 TS in their 2nd season.
This is obviously if he keeps this up.
Mike James straight up couldn't do this....in his 2nd season.
Again, all small sample size still, plenty of season left.

Dicks a baller
Some players that have no handle can be very afraid to put the ball on the floor and make dumb decisions as a result of it.
He's been making great passes while the handle isn't really that bad
And from my question above, the last time a raptor put this many consecutive 20s in their 20 year under 20 or whatever was with Tracy McGrady.
OOF

Darko gets it.
Nurse would still have him buried on the bench.

Gradey will never come close to having the impact Klay had on defense so that needs to be considered. Offensively he has more well rounded offensive game but Klay is still the better shooter right now (41% for his career + probably a top 5-10 sniper of all time). Let's pump the brakes a little bit. To say that is ceiling is quite a bit higher than Klay is recency bias because Klay was an all-star 3+D guy in his prime.
You may want to go take a look at what Klay was doing at Gradey's age. It wasn't this. Wasn't even close to this.
Klay didn't start looking even close to the player he became until his 3rd year at age 23 while playing with one of the best players in the history of basketball.

Still don't understand why Orlando didn't take Dick in the draft at #11. Seemed like a great fit. Was never that high on Howard. Early returns are showing they made a mistake. Never even considered Dick for Raps. I just assumed Magic would take him.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

2nd-year Klay was a 16.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.2 apg guy on -0.2% rTS, just to lend some quick access to info for that conversation.

And that version was 22 playing with Steph Curry.
