Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody is really scared of KAT being our anchor. Feels like there’s been multiple times where opponents have admitted the game plan was to attack him. And I don’t even need to say anything about sims

Committing to him at the 5 is essentially committing to hoping you outshoot/outscore opponents.

I’ve consistently stated, I hope the T-Wolves model is what the plan is when Mitch is healthy. KAT at the 4, Mitch at the 5 (in the Gobert role) was successful for Minnesota so it would be for us.

The 5-out faction of our fanbase has been hype for KAT at the 5. But it’s not even really a 5-out offense when you got Hart in the starting 5.

For 5-out to have a chance to exploit these big physical teams, you’d have to bring Hart off the bench and start McBride in his place. But for whatever reason, Thibs has refused to do that.

But you can’t play non-shooters (Hart) with KAT at the 5 and have no rim protection but then expect to beat big physical teams when you’re undersized.

thibs is the king of useless passes to waste to start a set.

He also runs the most complicated and unnecessary inbounds passes that take nearly 5 seconds to pass it in as well.

Just finished the game. man bad loss. You can lose to the Rockets, especially in Houston, no doubt. But if we are grinding our guys down like we do now, you better get the W in the end.
We need 1-2 more bodies badly. You can't tell me that this doesn't take its toll on the starters come playoff time. you just can't.

Sims is just a flat out desaster. He is a absolut zero of offense and too small to protect the rim and rebound.

Playing starters 40+ mpg with 90+ games remaining is all fun and games if you’re winning. Pretty catastrophic if you can’t beat mid-tier teams like the Rockets.

My prediction was Thibs would get fired after the first year of his new contract. Things seem on track!

Let me give you some real ammo

J. Randle - O. Anunoby - I. Hartenstein - J. Brunson - D. DiVincenzo
10 games
180 mins
126.6 ORTG
110.0 DRTG
16.6 NRTG

iShart was out of the Knicks hands, so hard to be upset by that.

Still, Knicks should have done better with his initial contract knowing that Mitch is Mr Glass.

i understand our bench sucks and some guys are hurt but there are 29 other teams, many of which also have short benches who have been mired w/ injury - why is it that only the knicks run a 7.5 man rotation (again)

i'm honestly just burned out on this kind of shortsighted desperation w/ thibs - he will forever be the man he was 20+ years ago and to think anything otherwise is nothing short of delusion

This is not good. Mikal is an iron man but running Josh and OG down this early is going to have serious consequences.

Let the kids play. Even if it's a few minutes. Anything is better than running all 3 of the wings into the dirt before Christmas.

If Thibs can allow Sims enough grace to go out there and stink up the gym for 10 to 12 mins he can let Dadiet get some burn. Come on.

We are missing two good defenders in Mitch and Precious. Happy to see our offense is coming along. Hoping the defense catches up once we are fully healthy. This would mean less Sims as well which is a positive in its self.

I missed the game so I can't comment on it. But I disagree with the notion that because our offense is doing well and our defense isn't, we don't need to address the offense. The same point was made (in reverse) about our defense in the Miami series two seasons ago, and I disagreed with it then. Every gain towards increasing the differential in our favor matters in the final outcome, and our offense has a lot of room for improvement.

The point I'm getting at is there's no reason a team with KAT, OG, Brunson and Bridges should rank 23rd in threes attempted per 100 possessions. We took only 28 threes against Houston - it simply isn't enough.

With a more efficient shot chart, we might be sitting first in offensive rating, and this differential might offset our defense for an increased chance of winning.

Now, the team does miss Randle's gravity and playmaking for generating threes. And we did lose DiVincenzo, whose skill set was more pertinent for this team than Mikal's in my opinion. But Thibs has to figure out a way to create more 3s with this new personel. He has one of the best PNR partnerships on paper. The numbers about switching defenses are enlightening, and signal an issue in how we attack switches.

Besides that, it's very early in the season, and with new cap rules encouraging parity, there are more competitive teams in the NBA. Losing at Houston is not particularly damning in isolation. I never bought into the 55-60 win predictions. The best-case scenario is 50-55 wins and approaching the playoffs healthy, on a positive streak, and with more answers than they do now. We'll have a clearer idea of whether we're trending in that direction around the 20-game mark.

Until we get farther out the BOS game is going to really impact those DEF numbers.

I was thinking this. That Boston game is going to gunk up the defensive metrics a lot.

Either way it's a good reminder that this is an ongoing process of improvement. There will be hiccups.

I know its tough to take 1 game out of a 7 game sample size but since BOS is just so good and couldn't miss anything from deep.

If you exclude the BOS game.

OFF rating - 118.8 (tied for 3rd in league)
DEF rating - 108.1 (ranked 4th in the league)
Net rating - 10.8 (ranked 4th in the league)

We have also played the 4th hardest SOS early in the season.

I don't think its time for doom and gloom we are figuring this stuff out. And the metrics would suggest we are likely going to be a top 5 team in the league when we figure it all out.

The calls for this being the start of the Knicks' apocalypse is overblown.

This is a process. There are multiple new pieces in play, and two of the teams rotation players are recovering from injury. It's not gonna happen overnight. Some games the team will look unstoppable and then there will be games like last night where they get punched in the mouth and have to figure it out.

As long as this team gets to May healthy and builds chemistry along the way, that's really all that matters.

A lesser team would have been blown out last night by the way that game went down. That's all I will say.
