Egor Demin - BYU

Post#1 » by clyde21 » Thu May 2, 2024 2:12 am

2025 guy, but an international to keep an eye, mobile 6-9, nice passing chops, can defend, athletic, non-broken shooting mechs.

there is some talk about him heading to the states next season to play in the NCAA

0 points (0-3), 6 rebs, 11 assists, 1 blk, 2 stls, 2 tos, in 25 minutes in a 93-49 game.

clearly wasn't looking to score, but flashing the all around game.

teammate and fellow nba prospect Kanon Catchings dropped 19 pts on 8-10 shooting in 18 minutes. he will probably need his own thread at some point.

Very curious to see him against better college competition but I love the idea of him already.

nice premier for Egor (Kanon also had a good game), albeit against a non-opponent pretty much

He won't always shoot/score like that, but Demin is an elite passer for a college frosh - maybe for anybody - but at least for a guy in this stage of his career. And he's a true full time lead guard. he's not just a tall guy they are trying to make into a pg - that's legitimately who he is.

Watch him two minutes and it becomes obvious that he's a passing and playmaking savant. Just always makes the right reads and passes, like clockwork. Reminds me of Haliburton in that regard (defense sucks, too!). He's going to be one of the most fun players to follow this season and looks like someone who will be drafted very close to the top.

his on ball defense did kinda suck, but he was active defensively off the ball and showing good instincts in that regard - getting in passing lanes, etc.

He had active hands but clearly didn't prioritize defense very much save for some possessions, and was generally fairly slow and reactive on that end. He has size and he clearly understands the game, so I'm not writing him off yet. But he will have to adapt and learn (unless he's a high-end offensive initiator even at the NBA level in which case I'd still hope he does improve but it becomes less essential to play a great role in the NBA).

See him going 7-12.

Moves like Hawks Bogey but on playmaking steroids.

Demin looks legit. Composure, vision, patience, etc on top of skills and size is very promising. Need to see it against better competition later in season.

Imo better first step and functional ballhandling skills than Cade.
I was never as high as others on Cade being a once in a decade type PG because he always lacked that elite ability to beat his men off the dribble and create his own shot in the halfcourt. Dont get these vibes with Egor.

He looks a little raw but the talent is obvious. If he is not afraid of contact and will continue to drive in the paint all season I’d take him top 3.

Also did anyone else see that pass off the backboard at the 1 minute mark? Please tell me that was intentional….that was sick.

He's a lock top 3 pick I'd say.
1. Ace
2. Flagg
3. Demin and whoever drafts him will be THRILLED with him.
