DAL-MIA-NOP: Trades for the future

Post#1 » by aguiar95 » Sun Nov 10, 2024 3:05 pm

DAL in: Ingram, Theis, Green
DAL out: Washington, Gafford, Kleber, '25 DAL 1st (top-10 protected)

Why? DAL does it for the long run. Guarantees Luka-Ingram-Lively (guaranteed playoff team) as their core and work around the margins to build a championship team.

Irving/Dinwiddie
Thompson/Hardy
Ingram/Marshall
Doncic/Prosper
Lively/Theis

MIA in: McCollum, Washington
MIA out: Herro, Robinson, Burks

Why? MIA gets younger in the frontcourt, and gets an experienced player for their backourt (IMO MIA eventually sends Rozier + youth for Dame).

McCollum/Rozier
Butler/Richardson
Jovic/Jasquez
Washington/Highsmith
Adebayo/Ware

NOP in: Herro, Robinson, Kleber, Gafford, Burks, '25 DAL 1st (top-10 protected)
NOP out: Ingram, McCollum, Theis, Green

Why? Get out of Ingram (assuming he doesn't want to re-sign there) and get Herro to help run the show who could be a good fit long term with Murray-Murphy-Zion (their core), a starting center and a pick as well, while absorbing some bad contracts (Kleber/Robinson).

Murray/Alvarado
Herro/Hawkins
Jones/Robinson
Zion/Murphy
Gafford/Missi

I'm not sure I get it for DAL, DAL trade the only playable PFs on roster and the backup center for a scorer, when they already have 2 in the starting lineup?

Ya getting worse and trading for the future when you have a team with a punchers chance to win a title right now is kinda crazy. The resulting Mavs lineup might miss the playoffs

I kind of agree with you, there. I don't like this for Dallas.

For Miami, I'm a fan. I really like Washington. Always have, and CJ would be a decent stopgap guy.

This feels like trading for a name rather than trying to build a team for Dallas. I mean Dwight Powell now plays 20 minutes a night and Marshall is an undersized PF but the only one Kidd will want to play. And a team that has been winning with defense for a while now asks Lively to cover for 4 below average defenders?

And you further reduce the value of Luka, Kyrie, and BI by asking 2 of them to play off ball every possession?

Yeah really don't get this for Dallas at all. And thats' without the risk of BI walking or Dallas having to max him to keep a cap space team from poaching him making addressing depth and defense that much harder.

The 03-04 Mavs roster was a transition roster to get out of Raef's contract not just an intent to build an offense only team. But also remember what a disaster that was? There is diminishing returns in adding scorers.
