bridges could probably still be a net positive on defense but we probably have to take him off the opposing PG. if primary ball handler is a wing, let OG guard them. if primary ball handler is a PG, just put hart or deuce on them and switch everything
I don't know if it's mikal or thibs but our pick and roll defense is straight garbage and one screen has mikal out the play every time. I don't know why we aren't switching 90% of screens

Yes or No?
Thibs only plays you consistently if he trusts you ON DEFENSE. You can shoot 45% and pass like Magic Johnson but if your name is not Brunson/Towns you need to be able to defend. While I don’t agree with Thibs and don’t think he’s a great coach this is who he’s been and the FO continues to give him players that don’t fit this mindset.
the so called players he trusts on defense don't seem to be defending very well so it may be time for him to think of something else
I mean they are burnt out thats why. It’s a byproduct of the FO drafting and signing players that don’t defend. There are coaches that can mix and match but Thibs isn’t like that. He benched Fournier, Kemba, Bogey, Obi, etc. he will bench anyone that can’t defend and I don’t get why the FO keeps bringing him players that are good offensively but are spectators on defense.

So it seems like you guys stepped away from the ledge last game so you can get a better run to jump off it this game.
This is your reminder of .500 till new year's day. #NYD!
Edit: I can't even get a few pages through this, it's the same post over and over said in different ways, you guys seem to love being miserable more than anything, the 'told ya so' energy is some's favorite mode.
I couldn't watch this game but yea MB has been rough to watch to start this season. Yea, what is the deal with Thibs drop coverage fetish for 3 point shooting teams and yea why can't he trust his bench even a little.
KAT's feet are too big and plodding to be a nimble defender that Mitch and iHart are. This won't change and Thibs needs to design his coverage around it.

Re: PG: Knicks lose to Pacers - Thibs is a Terrorist
I hope Brunson is just working his way back into shape cuz he looks slow out there. Maybe defenses are loading up on differently this season but he hasn’t been creating as much separation as he usually does. The offensive stats look really good but it doesn’t look nice. Very stagnant and a lot of iso ball. Feels like Brunson is driving into multiple defenders then not making the right pass to get the defense scrambling. This will probably work itself out but it’s something I didn’t expect would be an issue.
I know once we get healthy playing 6 man rotation won’t happen but it’s really insane that we’re doing that. I’m a big Thibs guy too but it’s doesn’t make sense. He was willing to play Dadiet against Boston and didn’t do anything egregious, what made him lose that opportunity? We’ve had a few games now that the team has failed to execute down the stretch and there’s no way that’s not related. It doesn’t have to be a lot of minutes either but if Carlise 9 mins for Enrique Freedman you can find a few more minutes for Kolek or dadiet.

How do you gain trust if you're never given playing time to earn it?

Things will get better when Precious and Payne get back ( Mitch too but he's farther away). But meanwhile someone else will get hurt from being overtaxed. Thibs has to start playing Kolek and Huk and Dadiet now, to keep starters fresh in the 4th
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

The thing about the "is early, this team had elite talent, we'll be fine" argument is that it's true.
But, the worrying thing is that, just because this team will eventually get it together, it doesn't mean that many of the reasons things look like they do now aren't HIGHLY troubling and indicative of a major flaw in this organization.
Having one of the better shooting teams in the league and taking half the 3s of your opponent in 2024? Playing a 6 man rotation in November? Running a defense that gives up open threes 97% of the time?
None of this is a matter of it just being viewed the wrong way or in the wrong context - there's absolutely no way to defend the choices that led to these results.
There can be issues of under performance, injury, or cohesiveness, but the primary problems with this team have nothing to do with players being new, not playing up to standard, or depth. This is about coaching choices.

The defense needs to be mixed up. The drop is killing the Knicks on too many possessions. Towns is the worst offender but the whole team seems to be playing poorly with drop. The wings are getting cooked too often and then you are asking an already overloaded Towns to compensate for all those blow buys, and ugly results. Less drop, please. Sometimes just using a more active scheme can energize guys and raise their give-a-damn factor too.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

I miss the old days folksssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine if a starter or two has to miss time.
We’ll be the first NBATeam with a 4 or 5 man rotation.

you don't know why we aren't switching? Thibs doesn't believe in it.

There are some troubling signs for sure. We started to mix in some switch last night though....hopefully it increases.

He doesn't gameplan for teams, he uses blanket coaching which is why we don't do funky matchups like other teams do. Like Josh or OG should have been on Turner, and KAT should have been on Siakam. But with Tom our center guards their center and that's that. It's why we play drop against teams that are good against drop, because it worked against a team that can't shoot surely it means it'll work against those that can.
The Pacers have been giving us trouble for years mainly because Tom has no clue what to do with someone like Turner
2021
2023
All our worst losses against them look them same, a barrage of threes and our defenders selling out to protect the rim despite the fact they want you to help and overreact to it.

Re: PG: Knicks lose to Pacers - Thibs is a Terrorist
only good win this team has is the miami game.
1st pacers win - pacers missed everything and hali had one of his weird fraud games. they looked really bad more than we looked good
heat win - good win, but we had to comeback to beat a decent at best heat team. Kat had an amazing performance which carried us
pistons win - decent win but the pistons played terrible. offense actually looked good this game though
bucks win - offense looked pretty good but the bucks suck and played bad - missed a lot of open shots.
so we have like 1 decent win and a bunch of bad losses. blown out in embarrassing fashion against the celtics. celtics are ELITE but haven't really blown anyone out the way they did to us since. Cavs loss in hindsight wasn't bad considering how good they've been, but blew a big 2nd half lead. rockets loss was terrible even though they're decent. team just looked bad. haws loss was abysmal. pacers loss isn't much better and again blew a 2nd half double digit lead.
give it time etc i get it, but there hasn't been reason to think this team will be a contender. a lot of things can change such as bridges remembering how to play basketball etc. but certainly reason to be very concerned.

If they're that bad in practice, that's really an indictment of the FO.

Or there’s certain players that are only nba level talents bc of what they do on one side of the ball. Quickley as a rookie got to play and even shoot 30 footers bc he can defend. I’m all for covering weaknesses when it’s possible but that is not Thibs. What’s an indictment of the FO is stocking on offensive players that can’t defend knowing the coach they just gave an extension can’t put these players to use.

So it's not a Thibs problem that he can't adapt, everyone else needs to conform to him?
