100% its debatable and it has been debated here over the last month or 2.
I need to see a full season.of these guys playing together before deciding who is more.valuable (between Quick & RJ). So far RJ has out-performed Quick since they both landed here.
Not that it matters.all that much at this stage. I want them all to grow and get better.
RJ Barrett is an extremely complex player and I think it's important for people to be completely cognizant of what he is right now.
When he's on he looks like the guy that was once a top prospect and looks like a potential All-Star but when he's bad he looks scary bad to the point where he's unplayable and the guy the Knicks gave up on at 23.
So who is the real RJ Barrett at this point in his development somewhere in between those 2 extremes. That's why this year is crucial because at 24.5 years old he's entering that fine line of young player still developing and who he actually is.
If this is who he's going to be then I'm fine with him as the 4th or 5th best Raptor who at times can even look like number 1. That's why it's important for him to add to his bag because if he reverts back to Knick RJ you're looking at a guy who gives you inefficient offense and poor defense which is basically a DeRozan/Bargnani level type player that you might not want to be part of your core.
IQ doesn't have these extreme lows where he falls off a cliff like RJ does when he's bad.
I'm rooting for RJ though I like his makeup and I hope he can fix some of his flaws and be more consistent. I also like how Darko is trying to make him expand his game with his playmaking last year when he said he wanted him to be like Manu Ginobilli I didn't really see it in him but he's done a good job so far with that.

In order for RJ Barrett to be effective, he needs the ball. However, he might also not effective when he defenders are all into him at once and cannot pass the ball.
On the first game Barrett came back, the first quarter was bad, because he got to the rim and tried to score against 3 defenders. The second quarter was good because he passed the ball before second defender came at him.
Anyway, he still needs to work on his off ball, both shooting and defense. I think he can be a borderline 1st option with enough spacing. (One thing you were wrong is that Bargnani was never being paid as the 1st option. He only got a starter salary, never a max contract, so I am unsure how people determine he was the 1st option.)
