I really believe that the Hawks are building a great foundation for much better D. DD and ZR are developing well together and getting Dre back will be great.

All three are keepers.
Even DH with his health concerns. If we move him he will flourish within another system. Keepers!

Our injuries is what's killing the bench. If we at least had Bogi, Kobe, amd Hunter, the bench wouldn't be so bad defending. Better yet, we can mix and match better. Roddy, Matthews, and Wallace are giving up a lot of size on that 2nd unit. It's bad enough that Nance and OO are also lacking in in length, but at least OO has the upside as a defender, while Nance should be okay-ish.

This is actually really awsome
DD is blowing the league away
JJ is looking for an all-star spot
TRAE is #79 in the league in a key defensive metric
Zacc is #92 as a 19yo rookie

The best thing is that these individual accomplishments haven't translated to team D yet, but it's coming very soon

I think these guys can be a top 20 D this season and that would be a big jump

3 pt defense has been the bugaboo. Quin has to fix that.

They still seem to collapse to the drive as off ball defender too much. Even when the bigs are there. Other than that I don't know what to fix. I think the length, effort and talent....and not over collapsing to the drive for little reason, will be the difference

It would help to read and understand the scouting report, who to leave on drives and who not to. All 3pt shooters aren't created equally. Start there. C'mon Quin, help them get that basic concept.

I haven't noticed that they've been bad at staying on good shooters. I just thought they were bad at staying on all shooters...

No really, so many players can shoot these days that usually there is only one or two that you know aren't shooters. The rest should be respected and defended at the 3.

If you and I know who the good shooters are, don't you think that the Hawk's players do too...?

Example of two instances: 1 by Roddy, the other by GMat cheating over to help Dyson...he doesn't need help, they came over to double forcing Dyson to have to switch and fly out to the 3pt shooter....stay with your shooter, let Dys do Dys.

My concern...

While it's a minor improvement for the defense...it's a major setback for the offense.

What's the point of even having an elite playmaking PG if we're bad at defense AND mediocre at offense?
