Cavs - Niang, Porter, 2 2nds

Clippers - Jones

Cavs - get a guy with length and athleticism that can come in and play the 3

Clippers - Get a young pg with team control, a couple picks, and a shorter contract. Can probably get an expiring for Niang too if they want to add a 3rd team.

What danger? Does Niang pick up somebody's kids in his Sienna?

Obviously Cleveland is rolling and I totally get not wanting to mess with success. But they have multiple guys on the roster to fill Niang's role as a bench spacer.

They definitely need to be thinking about how they defend in the playoffs. You aren't going to shoot 43% from 3 in every series. That outlier shooting is exaggerating a bit how good Cleveland is (yes, they are very good, they just aren't an 11 SRS team.)

The Cavs are a team built on continuity. I'm not a fan of change for the sake of change, and I don't think the Cavs' front office is either. Another player roughly on the same tier as LeVert/Strus/Wade/Okoro is just not worth shaking up the wing rotation.

Sadly we do not. We're very thin in the frontcourt once you get past Allen and Mobley. I'd make this trade because Jones can stay on the court in the playoffs as to where Niang has to shoot at least 50% from 3 to accomplish the same. I imagine the Clippers pass for the same reason.

I'd rather use those seconds to make a play for DFS though.

Clippers don't do this, CLE would say yes very fast...

Niang got in better shape in the off-season and he's looking like much less of a liability despite his shot not falling. I was captain of the "if Niang's shot isn't falling you can't play him" team last year, but I don't feel that way this year.

DJJ is 6'5". We have plenty of guys that size and they're good defenders. If you're making a frontcourt acquisition you want someone 6'8"+. I agree that DFS is the better trade target, but I'd probably prefer a 4/5 over a 4/3.

Making this deal probably prohibits another frontcourt move even if you don't trust Niang's improvement, so this is a deadline deal if nothing else materializes.

Clippers have zero interest in trading DJJ. He has seamlessly fit in with what the team is trying to achieve.

I don’t see it. For the Clippers, they don’t have a lot of avenues to acquire talent and shaving years isn’t enough given their current ownership and cap situation.

For the Cavs, the value is good, but they actually need Niang at the 4. They are Dean Wade’s annual trip to the infirmary away from being in a precarious place.

Cavs and Clips are weird trading partners. They’re both small teams looking for some dynamic size.
