Is cooper really THAT special athletically?
someone said shorter Giannas with a jumpshot. but isnt that KIND OF Scottie.

I'm not sure who to compare him to. He doesn't look similar to Giannis or Scottie really. I guess there's some Giannis on defence, but his handle and intelligence look like they'll be better than either guy. He's just not as massive as Giannis covering ground with his stride (though he's 17, so who knows if he's totally done growing), don't think he'll play center, and he's got a better handle and a bag unlike Giannis. Way more fluid than Scottie, and more comfortable going to get a bucket.

He looks like the perfect 3/4 (they're fairly interchangeable these days) for the modern NBA. Ran point basically last night and is a serious rebounder. Can get to his spot fairly easily and pull-up okay (looked better from say 10 feet than 15, but again he's 17). Maybe like Jimmy Butler if he was 6'9 and his shot was more reliable, which is absolutely a top 5-10 player in the league. So I guess I would put his over/under line similar to Tatum, in that he should be more of a playmaker on D, a similarly great, likely even better rebounder, but reads the game a bit better, so maybe he'll be 2-3 years ahead of Tatum development-wise. What if Franz Wagner was the 3rd-4th best player in the league because he was 20% better at everything? That sort of thing.

Tatum is a wing

Cooper seems more natural as a 4 at least rn but the Raps development team could make him a wing

Hard not to be when all the best players are on track to miss another 3+ weeks

Might as well just lean fully in at this point. My guess is they "try" for a few weeks when Kelly and Brown get healthy and then trade them ASAP after that.

Kinda impossible to climb out of what might be (at best) a 4-16 or 5-15 hole.

Masai/Bobby are smart enough to pivot mid-season if we stay at this rate

Cooper Flagg seems like a rare do-it-all type player. All-NBA defense with Michael Beasley offense is a top-10 player in the game in his prime.

Yeah they have shown they will do that in the past.

2014 - Gay trade was intended to be a tank 19 games into the year
2021 - hard tank once it was clearly over
2024 - hard tank once it was clearly over

This year the "clearly over" is just a lot earlier lol

That is not confusing at all - you just summed it up perfectly.

Low floor = high bust potential.

Ahh okay. Yeah, his eye doesn't look right yet. IQ likely done for 3-4 weeks also. Who knows about Brown and Kelly.

I could see us with something like a 4-21 record over the first 25 games.

we still haven't seen a healthy BBQ + Gradey together yet, so maybe in their minds it isn't "clearly over" yet, but the question is: will we even see them all together?

I think it might be a "fools gold" type deal, guys who look amazing in college but for some reason their games just dont translate to the NBA.

Like an Okafor or something. In this case since Ace only does one thing (scoring) so if it doesn't go well or translate he's a bust, but Flagg does so many things he can carve out a niche even if he isn't a true #1 type player.

damn we need a true #1 though

scottie already does everything pretty well and is a guaranteed #2 on a title team at least

Tatum is the 4 on the best team in the league.

He outrebounds and gets more blocks than Brown and even when Porzingis is healthy, the Celtics played their "bigs" ((Porzingis, Horford and Kornet) together like 5-7 minutes a night. I like Queta, but he's probably not going to change that equation, might even lower the number when Horford finally ages out of the league/rotation, as he's not a shooter like Horford or Porzingis.

Flagg should do more defensively at the 4 (though Tatum is a very good rebounder), but yeah, big 3s are the best 4s now, particularly if you don't have a 3pt spacing big, and those are very, tough to find, and we don't have one.

I think VJ Edgecombe would be comparable to Edwards as he didn't shoot that well at Georgia.

I guess Bailey would be more like Brandon Miller.

The NBA Illuminati want us to have Flagg. It is what it is. It's been written, we will capture the Flagg!

True, but if IQ is out for an extended period of time we won't see it this year  Scotties eye also looks horrible on broadcast, so I dont got my hopes up he is back anytime soon (and with us being 2-10, I cant see us rushing him back).

Like if Barnes/IQ both are out a month or month here, it is not crazy to think we are like 4-20 at some point. At that point, even if we get healthy and go .500 for the rest of the year, that is a 33-49 season. And that is assuming we go .500, and assuming we stay healthy for the entire year.

My guess is if 25 games in we are "healthy" we might still give it a go for the 25-30 game after that just to see what we got, and then shut it down with "injuries" in the last 25 games again.

Okafor is not a bust at all. He gave NBA level production - maybe not as a #2 overall pick - but that's only that draft class was weak (outside of DH)

I think a high bust potential is someone like Scoot Henderson who has athletic abilities near someone like Derrick Rose but not the skills, so the potential is high but if he doesn't develop those skills, he will be a big bust.

But if Scoot Henderson is high bust potential, what do you call this guy? Low bust potential or low potential period?

Funny last night I was watching the clips and I wondered, what if we get a guy that tops out at a slightly better Franz. He's no slouch but I would be a bit disappointed. And we would still be nowhere close to a championship.

I think he meant Jahlil Okafor. Emeka Okafor was not a bust, he was a solid starting center before the injuries. Not a great pick, but not a bust.

Morrison's issue, as I recall, was that in college he was great at hitting tough shots but couldn't get separation from his defender at all, and in the pros that meant literally no separation from his defender, and he was well below average at everything but scoring. Also his 3pt shooting as a Junior was miles ahead of his first 2 years, and like Derrick Williams (who I thought would be good, he seemed to have everything you need to be a solid NBA starting 4 and say 3rd option on O), was probably unsustainable.

I love miller. (who is kind of similar to Paul geroge with less handles) Ace seems like he's an even more fluid scorer, although some of his attempts are pretty ill advices he still makes them.
