Melton needs to be the starting SG

He fits what the Warriors need best. Great defender who with Wiggins and Dray will have a top 3 defense, high IQ and can shoot 3s to space the floor. I've been a proponent that he should be starting as soon as MDJ signed him. Another great move by him.

Just need him to remain healthy..

Curry, despite being a basketball genius with a very fast mind always had below average foot speed for an NBA starting point guard.
With Draymond, Klay, Bogut and Iguodala Rotating on defense together as a unit Currys lack of speed did not hurt to Warriors match on defense. Curry will just get slower as he ages. Having Melton defend point, guards allows Curry to defend off guards who are not as quick with the ball in their hands as point guards are. Defending offguards with help defense when they try to post up Curry It’s not as difficult as covering for Curry when the fast opposing point guard blows past Curry.

Is it easier to teach offense or defense? To me, a defense first player, it's easier to teach defense.

That said a player's body determines a lot of what their peak defensive level will be. But the Warriors happen to have a defensive genius in the "wrong" body in Draymond. Slomo, Loon, and Curry are much better on their defense than their bodies should allow.

That said, the Warriors have long struggled on fast guards who can penetrate, both in stopping penetration and in defending the paint on their penetration.

The Warriors need a version of Melton who stays healthy, and a version of Looney with more explosion
