that we should start mitch.
why?
zoomed-out reasoning:
1/ we have a top 2 offense, and a ranked 20th defense
2/ takes defensive pressure off kat to start the game. allows us to become more un-predictable with our defensive coverages in the 1-5 pnr.
3/ takes foul pressure off kat to start the game
4/ gives better bench balance by sliding josh hart to bench. he will still play 30+ minutes
zoomed-in reasoning:
1/ we've got to get the most out of the 20 minutes from mitch. does that mean we play him with the bench or the starters? where will we get more production out of him?
2/ we need to be able to play mitch with the starters, because in the playoffs (more half court sets) we are going to end the game with mitch on the court in the 4th quarter. he needs to play with the starters.
3/ we already know KAT at the 4 works.
4/ this is not us running away from 5 out. it means we are going to play 5 out less.
After watching Indiana how do you imagine the Knicks would defend them with their style of play and 2 centers in KAT and Mitch on the court? Mitch at his best is a far better defender than KAT but I feel like I remember the Knicks struggling with teams with stretch 5's like the Celtics and Bucks last year with Mitch healthy. The defensive personnel should be better on paper this year on the perimeter in comparison to the beginning of last year so hopefully there will be less breakdowns to cover but how do you imagine 2 true bigs would matchup with Indiana's pace, spacing and ball movement?
Mitch and to a lesser extent Precious gives us the ability to play more like last year when we need to. It will likely be a mix of both systems. Just like a team can mox zone and man throughout a game. This is just a more nuanced variation of that.

Ultimately we have to play Mitch 20-25mpg
More than sims
The question then becomes where do we play Mitch to get the most out of Mitch.
I think the answer to that is super obvious. Next to kat. For 15mpg.

Yup between 10-15 minutes next to KAT with the other 10-15 minutes when KAT is on the bench.

Counting on Mitch for 20-25min for any extended amount of time is crazy talk

Throw in. If they suspected they would.have given him a three year deal.BKlutch wrote:Capn'O wrote:KnixinSix wrote:
Even Precious would be a step up from Sims in practically everything.
I almost wrote that exact sentence but erased because Precious is a different sort of big than those two. It gives a different look. But I agree in principle and he's a good PnR defender who is switchable.
Do you think Precious was just a throw in last year, or did anyone in the organization suspect what he could contribute?

I think OG has that Men In Black neuralyzer, and used it on us to make us forget all about RJ. Or, he's just that good!

The big news about chaos is supposed to be that the smallest of changes in a system can result in very large differences in that system’s behavior

OG has been Kawhi lite to start this season... and I can dig it.
In fact, he's been the backbone of our defense as everyone else has been inconsistent or straight up bad. When Precious/Mitch return, it will unlock OG and Bridges even further.

He truly is elite. What's odd is he doesn't appear fast or quick. But he is smart, doesn't waste any movement and is insanely strong. A very unique player who is always fascinating to watch. Feel very fortunate that he is a knick.

Re: PG: KNICKS Knock-Out Embiid's 76ers
Hart reminds me a bit of poor man's Barkley, without the elite scoring skills. Freight trains in transition, great rebounders, hustle players yet questionable defenders, good passers, unique and loud personalities... I don't know.
Barkley was much more talented and impactful obviously, and also a lot more abrasive, but I see some similarities.

I’m still laughing at the Towns headbutt to Embiid
