Dick finding role on rebuilding Raptors

The Raptors are dealing with an early wave of injuries and have seen stars Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett miss games, already vacating a ton of offensive opportunities in the interim. But that hasn't stopped Gradey Dick, who's averaging 21 points per game and has shown real flashes as a dynamic perimeter shooter in his second season.

His emergence as a contributor, despite a 2-6 start, is an important development for the Raptors, who are in the process of assembling winning parts for the future and need their draft picks to pan out. Dick, in particular, has the type of skillset that's critical to putting the right level of spacing around Barnes. He's a very good shooter on the move and has expanded his shot selection to include more above-the-break 3s, averaging six attempts per game with a 59.1 effective percentage, per Second Spectrum. His 37.3% mark from long range should feasibly improve over time and with more talent on the floor around him. Dick is establishing himself as someone defenses can't afford to leave open.

These early performances are of a bounce-back for Dick, who didn't light it up as a 20-year-old rookie nor shoot particularly well in 11 games in the G League last season. Given that shooting was viewed as Dick's best skill coming out of Kansas, his play raised some level of concern from observers around the league as to whether Toronto had overdrafted him with the No. 13 pick, with players like Keyonte George, Jaime Jaquez, Jr., and Brandin Podziemski coming off the board after him. Dick started to fare a bit better down the final stretch of last season, amid a lot of Raptors losing.

There's still a lot of room for improvement here, particularly on the defensive end, but his confidence and improvement have shown some early-season promise in Toronto.
ESPN Insider

It's wild that articles still only talk about him like he's some 3pt specialist. The most impressive part of his game this season has been everything BUT his 3, his layup package has been looking like prime VC which is just absurd. Granted that doesn't bode well for his FTr.

Also, something that might surprise people. I think when it comes to athleticism, agility, physical attributes and skill I rate LeBron only in the top 50.

He is doing it on 47/38/93 as well.

Btw I should mention for non Raptor fans.

Due to the small sample size of the season, Gradey being drafted as a shooter, his sudden PPG jump from 8.2 to 21.6 along with the efficiency, and the circumstances surrounding the team with its injuries.

The honest truth is we have 0 clue what type of player we actually have.

That's because you haven't given Dick a chance. Once you go Dick, you don't go back.

People didn't make an issue with Larry Bird's name, but in some British Cockney groups, bird was considered C*nt. So how about Larry the C*unt - HOFFer.

"A person that gets "around" a lot. a whore, or a playa. Meant in a negative way.
I dont f*ck with her, shes a bird."

Johnson is also a name for a penis, but I haven't read through threads, where 50% of the responses are based on someone's penis. How about Rudy Gay... I'm pretty sure the administration, would jump in if, if posters made an issue about "Gayness". Grow the fu*k up.

Which administration? Whose coming after me? Is it the realgm deep state, lol? I am being humorous, but seriously, if you find my humor juvenile, please block me. No skin off my nose, but a small piece of advice: lighten up, my dude. Going through life super serious about everything is not going to be a fun experience for either yourself or those around you.

The Warriors have their own Dick. Biggest Dick in the NBA. His name is Draymond. And he's more smash than splash.

Gradey is a much more complete athlete than Redick was, he is coming up with clutch blocks and dunks. I can't remember JJ getting these many dunks and JJ was a smaller player.

Redick really developed into a supreme specialist playing off the ball and he also brought a positive professional presence to the teams he was on. JJ was a player who really developed his body in order to compete in the NBA and he did, i think alot of players respected him for that. He was also tremendously well known because of his college career at Duke. I think JJ will be a fantastic coach.

Gradey is more gifted athletically and physically and is also a great shooter.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Small in comparison to the "Wemby, I'm concerned" thread but I guess when you compare Dick's size to Wemby, that's bound to happen.

They showed during the Raptors game that only James, King and one other player I believe have had 3 or more 30 point games in a single season at the age of 20 or younger. I understand the Raptors are terrible, but yeah people forget that Gradey is still a very young player.

Close.

James x2, Luka, Bernard King

And it was 3 or more 30 point games in the first 12 games of a season...aged 20 or younger.

But your point remains...still very young.
