Maybe DFS+CamJ is a better target.
Lakers get CamJ, DFS
Nets get DLo, Rui, Christie, LAL29FRP(unprotected)
I wouldn’t pitch Christie in trades until midseason. Until he’s put together some solid play for awhile, he’s a bad contract. If LA has faith in him, hey need to hold him until that faith pays off a little bit. Because no one else is going to pay them for it not showing yet. At this point, he’s on a slightly larger contract than Donovan Clingan, but fully gtd and with no team protection if he doesn’t develop.
I’m not writing him off yet, but he’s simply LA’s guy they believe in until he proves more on the court.
Yeah that's fair. His main issue is offense, in particular he doesn't seem ready to slot into a spot up shooter role. He's still trying to show off his 3-level scorer skills, to be bigger than the role Reddick planned. So that's the battle at the moment.
Sure. And he's got some super small things that bode well. A decently high free throw attempt rate. Rebounding and passing from a wing. All on a relatively low usage rate. But he's got to show some defense, and he's got to show some ability to hit some shots to be able to even earn some minutes to be able to prove the rest of his game. And now that he's on a 4/32m contract, that's a much more pressing situation than if he were the 30th overall pick and still on his original rookie contract or whatnot.
If the "2nd round exception" would have existed a year earlier, and he was in the 3rd year of a 3 year deal, LA would be MUCH better off here. LA should have tried harder to use part of their exceptions to sign 2nd round picks to longer deals these last 7-10 years. And they've suffered quite a bit for it.
