Re: Fake Trade Thread #6
If the front office and the coaching staff believe the extreme usage heliocentric version of lamelo is the future of the franchise, then we need to look at trades and target players who best fit that style. I'm not sure Brandon Ingram is the type of player that would thrive in a system revolving on Lamelo having 36% usage.
- A system like this needs knock down catch and shoot wings to space the floor, especially in the corners.
- Screen setting Big man who are pick and pop or lobthreats
- And at least one other guard on the roster who can put rim pressure on the defense

Guys like Giannis and Embiid are highly unlikely as they are good enough to sort of control their destination. Giannis has a NTC no way he chooses Charlotte of all places.JMAC3 wrote:JustBuzzin wrote:Ingram right now is probably the most realistic star we could get that would actually wouldn't mind playing here. If we going to make a big trade this might be the most realistic situation. Ingram being from NC he probably wouldn't mind a trade close to home.
Maybe Philly decides to blow it up and Paul George becomes available. That's probably the only other situation I can see for us.
Guys currently available
Lavine
Ingram
Guys who might become available
Trae Young
Giannis
Embiid
Markkanen
Michael Porter Jr
Sengun/Jalen Green
Jimmy Butler
Zion
I would rather just wait and see where things are then handcuff our flexiblity to a Lavine or Ingram type. Giannis is probably a wild long shot, but we could potentially be in play in the others cost wise.
Houston has probably the best young assets so I doubt they trade their guys for anything less than a superstar aka Embiid/Giannis.
Zion the only other one on that list who I could see us taking a gamble on.
So yeah pretty much Lavine/Ingram is probably the best we could do.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #6
I'd be interested in Lauri in the offseason but the interest in Ingram has nothing to do with any comparison between the two. Lauri is clearly more talented.
The price point is a factor. Why turn down Ingram for 1st in hopes of getting Lauri for maybe 5 1sts?
Doesn't make sense.
We don't need anything more than a 3rd option given we already have viable #1 and #2 options in LaMelo & Miller.
If you do a player comparison in trades you have to also factor in price comparison.
I think LaMelo & Miller look like #1 scoring options for many teams. And this year Ingram would rank as Hornets #2 option behind LaMelo and ahead of Miller.
If you can land a #2 scorer where the most meaningful loss is one 1st round pick when you already have a surplus, it's bad business not to explore. It's a missed opportunity given trades, not free agency is our path to additions of feature shot creators who can beat even a good defense or a solid individual defender.
LaMelo
Ingram
Miller
Miles
Mann
There is sufficient scoring there to make the Hornets a top 10 offense while maintaining rights to all our own draft picks to make upgrades in the coming 3-5 years if warranted.
We have upward mobility.

no way Sacramento sends a 1st, yeah I'm in for sure. We'd need to reroute huerter for a front court player but that shouldn't be too hardJkam31 wrote:How do you guys feel about Huerter, Colby Jones, a first and two seconds for Grant and Richards

I was looking at the rebuilds of the Pacers, T-wolves, Cavs, Hawks this morning on what worked and didn't work.
I actually think we are in a great spot, we could be one really good trade away from competing.
My #1 target is Bam Adebayo.
#2 target is Zion.

Miami trades Jimmy as an expiring to a contender, he is almost 36.
Then we offer Bridges, Heat pick back, Dallas first and 2 future Hornets picks.
Melo- Miller- Bam is a really good team.

I’ve been wanting to say I like the idea of rolling the dice on Zion for a while because the convo is kind of rote and scripted with the injury stuff but personally I’d take that risk every day if the price is right. Bam seems like a pipe dream but definitely would be fine with that too lol
Melo/Miller/Zion on paper is basically impossible to stop offensively. On paper. Like the heaviest duty construction paper you can buy, preferably

I person Would Grant can start for us and defend the big wings while spreading the floor giving Keegan a break and helping the offense. The first would be for adding Richard’s we’ve been on the hunt for a Sabonis backup for a while I hate his minutes being so high also turning Huerter into two good rotational guys is big for us lacking depth.

Not a fan of Green and he can’t defend the big wings to give Keegan a break

I would much rather trade for Zion than Ingram even with the cost difference. Zion when healthy is a big need mover and if I am giving someone 40 million I want them to be a needle mover not just an okay 3rd option.
Bam as of now= pipedream but if Miami trades Butler he could become available.
Bam would give us the floor spacing 5 that fits Lee system, but he is also really good in the dribble handoff and pick and roll game with Melo/Miller. He also is really good defender and once Mark gets healthy he would be a great compliment as two different defensive styles we could play.

Unfortunately I feel like any of these win now moves to get a big established star next to Lamelo would come at the cost of at least Miller.
Which does bring me to another question. I certainly don't think this is the direction the front office whatever pivot to in the next year but if they really felt like they needed an established win now star next to melo, Would you be open to trading miller to get that player?

I'm a big fan of healthy Mark but if he can get healthy I'd trade him in a heartbeat should Bam ever become available.
He's a good target because teams typically don't build or rebuild around their center. So when Butler ages out (happening fast), Bam could become available and we own one of their 1st round picks which could boost our package should their record in the coming 2-3 years endanger them losing a high lottery pick...for Terry Rozier.
On the other hand, trading for Ingram now wouldn't impede acquiring Bam down the road, because we don't have to empty the cupboard for Ingram. Just the Mavs pick from the PJ Washington trade. If you can acquire a #2 scorer like Ingram at a PJ Washington price, you jump at it. That's a role player price for a #2 scorer.

I don't know if Miami is willing to blow it up. Don't we basically owe their unprotected pick in 3 years? That could be jackpot.

Well you're giving us a guard (Huerter) and subtracting a forward (Grant), instead of taking back another guard (Green), thus creating an imbalance on our roster while you balance yours.
Hornets wouldn't take on Huerter $ overlapping with Green $.
You also leave us short a center. We are thin there.

Miller is past that IMO, once a player reaches a certain level they are typically viewed off the table in NBA trades no matter how good the guy coming back is. Hence Darius Garland or Mobley not getting traded for Mitchell at the time, most of these trades are completed with draft picks and/or young guys who have shown nothing but have potential ala Salaun or Kessler (Gobert) Agbaji (Mitchell).
I mean Golden State wouldn't include Podz or Kuminga for Markkanen and Miller is viewed as the better long-term piece than those guys.

Miami is 4-6. Their best player is 35 yrs old, wants a new contract and isn't likely to opt in to his player option after this year. I agree Miami normally wants to compete but unless they are going to go all in and trade for Trae Young with all their picks then a rebuild could make sense given their roster.
Trading for Rozier was their attempt to add to their core and compete and it doesn't seem like it has moved them into the contenders category like they hoped.

maybe, but, its not like young lotto guys dont get moved in win now trades... off top of head
- sga traded for paul george
- sabonis traded for paul george
- haliburton traded for sabonis
- ingram/randle/lonzo traded for ad
I'm certainly not advocating for this route. And I don't think it's a direction our front office would ever go. But there's certainly plenty of precedent of teams trading young potential stars on rookie contracts for a win now veteran. So I don't think it would be completely unheard of if the Hornets were willing to move Miller and the right kind of trade to build a more competitive team around melo. So my question was more hypothetical. Would you guys ever even entertain the idea of trading Miller in order to get Lamello an established star?

Shai was 11th pick and averaged 10 ppg when traded
Sabonis was 11th pick and averaged 6ppg when traded
Haliburton was 12th pick and averaged 14 ppg when traded- Everyone was shocked when Haliburton was traded and he was worse than Miller at the time.
Miller was 2nd pick and already averaged 20 ppg post allstar break last year.
Ad was a top 5-10 player in the League, so yeah makes sense. For instance probably having to trade Miller for Giannis, Jokic, Embiid sure... but not for guys that are seen as top 25 players like Bam or Zion.
