DET/BKN/HOU Get Cade his future spacing PG

Post#1 » by eitanr » Fri Nov 15, 2024 1:09 am

After watching some Pistons this season, it is becoming evident Cade needs a spacing PG long term. Despite the OT loss in Milwaukee, for example, the other night, Cade looked way more efficient and committed less TO due to the added spacing of Sasser at the 1. Sasser’s ability to also handle more PG duties was a welcomed load to take off Cade.

This isn’t meant as an Ivey bash. The Cade/Ivey tandem now has a lot more sample size and the fit just doesn’t maximise either talent. Detroit needs to find a way instead to get a pure spacing 2 way PG. that man is Reed Sheppard. Here is how it may happen:

Pistons Deal: Ivey, THJ, Thompson
Receive: Sheppard, Eason, Brooks

Nets Deal: Cam Johnson
Receive: Ivey, THJ

Rockets Deal: Sheppard, Eason, Brooks
Receive: Cam Johnson, Thompson

Why for Detroit: Pistons add more long term salary in Brooks, but net two excellent defensive talents who could fit long term and in their starting unit today. Reed is the future spacing 1. Eason can be a combo forward next to Harris and adds to that needed defensive identity Pistons are trying to reclaim.

Why for Nets: unsure whether BK is really rebuilding, but they still get an expiring spacer in THJ and an improving young talent in Ivey. Ivey has been strong this year and could flourish in a system where he has more room for usage.

Why for Houston: they unload Brooks’ contract, take back a massive upgrade as a 3D SF in Cam and add chemistry potential with the Thompson Twins. Fans will be singing hold me now…all night long! Thompson doesn’t hit extension eligibility for longer and is also a more attractive outbound piece if the team eventually considers whale hunting for Giannis etc.

Please note the Thompson/Eason element of the deal can be erased if it just adds complexity, but wanted to gauge value on that angle as well.

Rockets are not considering this at all. Amen and ausar should not play together, Eason is maybe their best player so far this year, Brooks has been good, they're not trying to offload him. Cam J would be nice but this is a totally different deal at that point as I was thinking more along the lines of Whitmore for him not Reed

Cam Johnson isn't an upgrade to Brooks or Eason for how the Rockets use the both of them. The Thompson Twins can't play together on a playoff team. The value really bad for the Rockets. It's a gargantuan overpay and it makes the team worse in so many ways.

Also, Brooks is a good player on a good deal. He's not someone you unload just to unload. He's the ace defender for the opposing team's best perimeter player and Wemby specifically.

Looks like a convoluted way for Nets to steal value.

Detroit might be stealing more value than the Nets. Really bad for Houston.

When I opened this thread I thought the Rockets were getting Cade

We're not trading Eason, Brooks and Sheppard to get back Cam Johnson and Ausar man, come on.

I don't think so. You can't price Ivey and Ausar Thompson at their production level, but Sheppard on potential alone. As of right now. I think the Rockets probably don't do this because the fit is bad (both Thompsons on the same team? yuck), but I wouldn't say Sheppard and Eason are necessarily higher potential players than their Pistons counterparts.

Houston isn't getting Ivey in this deal though. Just Ausar and Cam J. Id also very confidently argue Eason is higher potential than Ivey, both third years and Tari has been significantly better their entire careers anyways. It's really bad for Houston

Yeah, this is horribly lopsided in the Pistons favor. Green is the guy I expect who could be had for relatively cheap and the Pistons are one of the few teams I could see him working on.

Pretty hard pass from this detroit fan. Hate brooks. Not sold on Sheppard as an NBA player of any sort. Really like eason as a roll player, but I don't think he's one of those guys who would just explode in a larger roll.

Anyway, maybe complete homerism, but I have Ausar and ivey as the two best prospects in this deal followed by eason. That matters more to a rebuilding team than anything.

As mentioned, way too good for Detroit.

So far this season, favorite part of the games is when Eason and Brooks are playing defense together. Serious defense!
Amen and Jabari just add to the effect.

Yea, can't see the Pistons giving up the two best prospects in this deal, for such a mid return, no interest in Brooks, Sheppard is fools gold, and Eason is a nice player, but his ceiling isn't near Ivey/Thompson's and at this point Detroit isn't really in a position to start bailing on their potential stars.

Sounding like a broken record, but Eason is not going anywhere. (Neither is Amen).

There's no value for Nets here, Ivey doesn't do anything for the Nets, we already have one young chucker who is better than him (Cam Thomas)

Coby White could be a good fit with his volume 3 and ability to create his own shot.

Eason has been like a top 15 player in the entire NBA this year. This proposal isn’t close to value for H-Town

Surely if this were remotely close to being close to true he'd be playing a lot more than 22 minutes per game.

Obviously top 15 in exaggerating but the minutes is bc he's on a soft minutes limit. He's been incredible tho

Yeah, i don't see anyone doing this.

Last year, I wanted to do Thomas/Sharpe for Ivey/Durant, now... not so much.

I could see Johnson in Houston, but I'm pretty sure they would not give any if the prospects we would want for him.

Overall, I can't see a deal this big happening with these 3 teams. Feels like rearranging deck chairs.
