Game 11: Utah Jazz (2-8) vs Dallas Mavericks (5-6)

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:21 am

The Jazz need to catch up to Toronto and Philly, who have worse records. They are currently tied with the Wizards and a win would give them the same record as the Pelicans. Not good.

At some point, we should probably root for Lauri, Cody, and Keyonte to not suck this year instead of only focusing on losses.

Sexton is playing worse in part because he's playing through a broken finger.

Notwithstanding starting with a worse record than ours, I suspect Philly is a long ways from giving up on the season. They didn't sign 34 year old Paul George at 50 mill per season to tank, and they struck gold with #16 pick McCain. If they get Maxey, McCain, George and Embiid on the floor together, they'll have major offensive firepower. Embiid, George and McCain will probably play next game.

I think we all root for them to play well and that the Jazz lose. I don't like to see players not playing well, especially those who are supposed to be part of the future. I think that due to the youth of a lot of the roster, if Hardy plays the young guys a lot, the Jazz could be bad enough to lose even if some of the players are playing well.

I mean, we're losing because

1. Markkanen and Sexton have been mediocre
2. Keyonte has been very bad
3. Hendricks is out
4. Cody Williams has been the worst player in the NBA

All true, but we can also lose if other players are bad (like Clarkson chucking), or if we play a lot of young players and even when they play well they make mistakes that cost games. Or if both teams play well and the Jazz end up losing because the other team is simply better.

If we played most of the games with Kessler, George, Williams, Flip, Collier, Sensei, Juzang, Potter, etc., we'd be losing even if they play well. I'm betting we'll see that in the second half of the season.

Chills scorching through my back spine as I'm reading.
No one to blame but me, 'course.
Same allergic people can't blame peanuts for existing.

Googleing is unfair but I guess you being the only ones playing tonight must be 'cause you're recovering some prior cancelled game or whatsoever.
If it's but a schedule random hazard looks odd.

Last time I roamed around here, Utah won.
Now, they are half timing a tied game against a contender.

I'm a natural born jinxster.

Addedit after the game:
Yup.
Definitely jinxed.
You're lucky I'm not bandwagoning you or else you'd risk making it to the Play-In

That was an entertaining game but winning it isn't helpful. The Jazz won 3 of the last 5 games. Glad to see good games from Flip, Collins and Sexton, and George was decent, but if things continue like this then this will be another wasted season. Even Hoops Nerd is losing his ****.

Hardy is doing competitive lineups, and seems to have giving Keyonte some instructions.
He looked more in control and only shooting when he should = better FG%.

John Collins is doing a great job. Last year he was something undervalued but this year is showing pride and being the best player out there.
Filipowski seems the better Rookie/sophomore out there (32# draft pick). He knows how to play better than Hendricks/Brice and Cody right now.

Fun win. My only critique is I'd love to see Clarksons minutes be more in the low 20's and those ten minutes spread between Juzang, Collier, Senabaugh, and Williams. Quietly, Clarkson is having a similar season to the previous one, which means the wheels have fallen off. He's going to be good about one in every three games, and besides that, he'll be pretty bad, which I guess is great for the tank, but you could get the same output and give the youth more run if you just cut his minutes a bit.

This same argument should probably be used with Patty Mills as well.

My only critique is that the Jazz won 8-)

Fun game, I guess the fans are due a home win, although I would have preferred a close loss. Does Hardy need to play Collins 36 mins and JC 30 mins? Did he not get the memo that we are developing the young guys (i.e. tanking)?
