Re: Welcome Jared McCain!
McCain needs to play with the other 3. There are going to be games in the playoffs where a team comes out scorching hot (celtics) and we could find ourselves in a hole fast. In those instances you're going to want McCain, Maxey and PG surrounding Joel for spacing and 3pt attempts.
The regular season needs to be used to give those 4 guys a chance to get used to each other; figure out defensive communications and offensive roles. The coaches need to find out can the offense those 4 generate mask any defensive liabilities. You also need to give McCain as much experience facing opponent's top guards for both offensive experience, but defensive experience too.
There is simply no good reason to keep McCain out of lineups with the top 3.

Reggie Jackson almost seemed annoyed that he had to pass it to him

I seriously thought the same thing. It also appears like he was clearly looking in McCain direction then turned head and body away to try and dump it anywhere else but to McCain.

Maybe I prefer him over Gordon tho.

I'm super impressed with McCain. He's one of the stronger young guards I've seen. He plays great on both sides of the ball.

Some of us have given him Brunson / prime Lowry comps. Smaller but physical and stocky guard that wins because of his craft and BBIQ as opposed to athletic traits.
I was optimistic when the pick was phoned in but he's far exceeded my expectations already.

I’m going to say it. He has a higher ceiling than Maxey. Not saying it will happen but its conceivable. Very much like how Maxey has pretty much reached his outliers outcome because of his work ethic McCain could do the same.

Black and Suggs usually out physical other guards, and they couldn't do it with McCain. He actually looked stronger than them.stormi wrote:basketballRob wrote:I'm super impressed with McCain. He's one of the stronger young guards I've seen. He plays great on both sides of the ball.

He has the potential to be Brunson. So yes, that’s about a tick better than Maxey.
always a jump shot away.

I dunno, Maxey is really dang good; you might forget b/c his shooting touch was off to start the season.
McCain is a more natural point guard; Maxey is a more natural shooting guard. They could complement each other nicely. McCain guards the stronger guard while Maxey covers the speedsters.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

Of course there’s always room for improvement, but eventually he’s going to be what he is (which is fantastic already).
It’s his 5th year, he’s not some rookie kid anymore. If you think he’s going to keep improving at an exponential rate and turn out to be better than Michael Jordan, more power to you.
always a jump shot away.

maybe i'm old... and delusional, but he reminds me of a better shooting andre miller. strong for a 'small' guard, craftier than he looks at getting his shot off inside, but a much better 3pt form

I didn't think of Miller, but I could see it. The guy I kept thinking of was in Utah and finally dawned on me the name, Deron Williams.

Re: Welcome Jared McCain!
McCain is a much more pure shooter than Brunson or Miller or Deron Williams. His shooting form reminds me of Klay.
Austin Krell agrees.

Re: Welcome Jared McCain!
You just can't really compare a 6'2 guard to a 6'7 wing that was one of the best two way players in his prime. A large part of what makes Klay Klay is the fact that he almost always took the toughest perimeter defensive matchups and created a lockdown defensive trio between he Iguodala and Draymond.
McCain is comfortably better wrt self creation than Klay Thompson was either.
At least we've already long smurfed the Divincenzo / Seth comps, JM can run an actual offense.
