Re: Mikal's Broke then Fixed Then Broke Jump Shot
The whole tweaking his jumper in the off-season thing, AFTER the trade to the knicks, has got to be one of the biggest WTF head-scratchers of all time involving a pro sports player. Especially one where everyone and their mother knows how much we gave up to get this guy. I mean if there ever was or will be another 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' scenario that ever pops up, it can't possibly top this.. This is the creme de la creme boy... These guys gave up the moon to get me, let me **** with my jumper now?? WTF - WHAT?!?!? And whoever told him to do that, if it came from someone else, that person should be shot..
But now putting that aside, I just don't like how he's playing in general, and I think it's a combination of two things: the Thibs offense is just downright poor -- it's underwhelming, predictable and just leaves a lot to be desired (ok Bridges, you're up in this corner. OG, you go to that corner...). BUT THEN ALSO, I just don't think Bridges is being aggressive enough himself.
Ok Mikal. yeah maybe he wants you to start up in the corner, but for **** sake, MOVE AROUND DUDE!!! DON'T JUST STAY THERE!!!! To his credit he does a little -- I mean that's how we were able to see that the guy actually does have a very potent mid-range game -- he's just not doing it enough. And Thibs isn't looking for it enough. I want to see him spring loose over and over in the mid-range and get the ball in good position to do DAMAGE -- flash across the middle for his little fade away, I want him to have multiple touches in the post for his back in then turn around fade aways, maybe some jumpers off well-executed screens to free him up, etc...I mean to me, yeah he can shoot 3s and by the end of the season I bet he's back up to his career mark of 37-38%, but the mid-range is where this guy is at his best. I don't want them to figure it out, I WANT THEM TO DO IT!! We should be milking this every damn night!
Bridges needs to step up AND Thibs and company have got to figure out ways to get more out of him. This whole, go stand in the corner **** isn't enough.. But then flip side, Bridges can't settle for being the 3rd or 4th option, like some Gerald Wilkins... I loved Wilkins but come on, he's better than that!! He's got to say to himself, F that, I'm more than that and I expect more and want to deliver more than that! F this stand in the corner **** -- GIVE ME THEN DAMN BALL!! Hopefully the Bridges resurgence starts tonight against his former team.
I'm a Bill Simmons fan and this little clip he's got up on YouTube says it all. Short, to the point, and spot on (I feel the same way) --

Re: Mikal's Broke then Fixed Then Broke Jump Shot
We pretty much know who KAT, Brunson, OG, Hart, McBride are. We know their strengths and weaknesses.
Mikal is by far the biggest variable.
He's a lethal shooter from the midrange, but his level of defense and 3-point shooting are question marks.
If he plays strong defense and shoots 3s at a 38-40% clip, I think it elevates us into a championship contender.
If he plays average defense and defenders start sagging off him because he's shooting 30% from 3, we might reel and fight our way to an early first-round exit.
I think depth is our biggest issue at the moment, and guys will start coming back, but Mikal's play will have a huge effect on our ceiling.

His 3pt shooting and his FT shooting are down to start the season. That's all it is. New team. New system etc.
The reactions around here have been insanely shortsighted and lazy. Things will take time and we haven't had any bench stability at all so far.

His shot definitely had a little hitch in it. The sky isn't falling though.
The second part of my post should have been more clear. I was referring to the cumulative reactions to every little thing around here from the first game to the 13th game. Not just Bridges. The entire team is working out their fit and we have to be patient. People thinking we would see peak form at this point in the season are being silly.

I would say Mitch's health is our biggest variable. He brings another element to the team that we dont really have, and one we may need in the playoffs.
Mikal has been a little shaky at times, but overall has been very steady throughout his career. I think he will be fine.

I also think people overlook his consistency. He's always on the floor and he might never be the best player on the floor. But you can count on him to be out there and availability is your best ability.
