The NBA just sent me an invite to purchase tickets for the NBA Cup LOL. I couldn't be more excited...

Sorry, but just not interested in this. While I want the Spurs to win all possible games, I do not want them to overstretch and have someone come out of this with an injury because they want some extra money.

Sure, but these initial games are part of the regular season schedule. And to that extent these are excellent opponents against which we can test our mettle.

Feels like a Euro/international trend being implemented, borrowed from footy, maybe other sports.

I do get your point, though, especially since we'll be going to France for a couple of games, plus playing twice in Austin, which although are technically home games, still require a bit of travel added on to the RRT and put us in an environment we seldom play in. It'll be a load of a season.

Sure, but these initial games are part of the regular season schedule. And to that extent these are excellent opponents against which we can test our mettle.

Sure. That's part of it. Perhaps the heart of it. But there's a trip to Vegas for teams which most seem to like, extra $$ when most on a team doesn't make what top tier guys do, and for more casual fans, a hyped up reason to tune in during NBA doldrum part of the season.

For pros, I think it just breaks up the season into chunks, and this is another manufactured one. Once the NBA makes the stakes count for post-season, maybe it'll be more of a factor for diehard basketball fans.

Im not sure if we have had this conversation before Grey, but I could absolutely care less what the casual fan thinks or wants. I know im in the minority on that because im not a greedy a-hole. This formerly great game is just an unrecognizable shell of itself because of greed, laziness, Adam Silver and catering to the "casual fan". International basketball is now my favorite form of basketball because its more about basketball and not BS. Anyway, thats a rant for another thread.

As far as making the NBA Cup meaningful for the post season? That is a HUGE mistake IMO. As Ive said many times, teams in November and December are nothing like the teams they are in May and June (injuries, trades, rotations...etc) so making that tournament count for something in the post season is stupid. Of course I make sense so its almost a sure thing Silver will grab for more cash by surely making it count toward the playoffs......

Both agree and disagree with you on this one. I believe with GREY that there should be reasons for teams to perform throughout the season so I would not be opposed to the 9/10 seeds in the playoffs going to teams that perform early and late (to prevent the late season tanking) in the season.

Without a real incentive, outside of money, I don't really see the value of these in-season tournaments.

I am all for breaking up the season into meaningful chunks, I am however unconvinced that this is the best way to do it.
