Has there ever been a more dominant player who bails out opposing defenses more often than Giannis?

I can't think of one.

I have been saying this for a few years now, but I always try to think about how it must feel to be an opposing coach going up against Giannis and the Bucks.

You go into the game thinking you're pretty much helpless against Giannis dominating and embarrassing you in the paint.

Then the game starts and Giannis is out there shooting 3's and midrange jumpers.

Today's final shot was a perfect example. If I was the Hornets I would have been terrified that with 6 seconds left Giannis would go strong and either dunk on our whole team for the game winner or at least get fouled. If I was a Hornets fan I would have been like wtf, but thanks.....lol.

drdrG wrote:I don't get the naysayers on Giannis today. Isn't this what we want from him? More effort on defense, smarter playmaking on offense, getting others involved and lower effort offense that's more sustainable long term. He was great. Was he 3/7 on midrange? 4/7 every game and he's a Khris/KD level midrange shooter...

What better shot were we getting there? 4 seconds left, no one else on the team can create a shot for themselves except Bobby. I'm good with our 2 time MVP isolated at the free throw line. They had 3 guys camped in the paint. Maybe put AJ Green in the game and run a screen for him at the wing.

He was good for sure but he started to settle for the jumper a bit too much. I don't remember him creating a bucket for himself in a half court situation that got himself to the rim? He was 5/12 on jumpers (that's over half his shot attempts btw) and missed his last 4 I think. There was more than 4 seconds left but even if that was the case who cares when you have the best paint/rim scorer in the world inside the three point line? I don't get being ok with him taking a jump shot instead of doing what he does best and attack the rim but I guess people are just ok with Giannis doing whatever he wants?

Not a great call at the end but nothing really out of the ordinary. The only takeaway here is when you play a lot of not good players, you run the risk of losing to bad teams.

Also, Giannis turns 30 pretty soon and has a lot of basketball behind him. I think it's ok for him not to be in full attack the rim mode all the time. I'd like to see him get to the jump hook a little more often but the guys mostly doing it himself out there.

The team is bad.

I see only two people have mentioned Brook Lopez with a 5-3 stat line in 30 minutes.

Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

Sometimes it almost seems like Giannis is ashamed or embarrassed to dominate and embarrass the opponent.

It's almost like he's saying, I could totally dominate and eviscerate your team if I wanted to. But I will be nice and I will brick six 3's and brick a bunch of mid range jumpers to make it fair and give you a chance.

1-6 in away games is a crazy stat

I get Giannis not being in attack mode every minute he's on the court over an 82 game season.

But when you are Giannis and you have the ball in your hands down by 1 with 6 second left and the game on the line. Why are you settling for that?

Are the Bucks playing the best they can? No. But at the same time, I think they were pretty unlucky to start the season this way. Lost by 1 point against a dominant looking Cavs team. Lost by 6 against the defending champs. A few other losses that could have been wins with some more luck, this game included. They could easily be 7-6 or 8-5 now in some slightly different alternate universe.

Obviously, they need to play better, but I think a lot of people are just kneejerk reacting to the current record.

Could not disagree with all of this more. They look every bit as good as their record depicts.

We're 50 games in and 6 under .500 with Doc and largely the same roster. It's not really a knee jerk reaction anymore. It's a pattern of poor play.

The refs can make it up to us by stop calling fouls on Brook for being the biggest dude on the floor.

Yep. Our fanbase is channeling 2012 Jim Paschke.

“Hey. If that three pointer by Monta goes down, the Bucks leave the Staples Center victorious”

“Once this team gets Andrew Bogut back from injury they’re going to go on a run”

“I didn’t see a foul there John. But evidently Courtney Kirkland did. And that was the game”

If our goal is to stay above Phily, we're doing just fine.

on the brightside, we don't have to cheer for a POS like Bridges.

Honestly I'm not mad at that loss. No Dame, No Midds and it still takes multiple bad calls from the refs for Charlotte to win. There is one thing I don't understand though. Is AJ Johnson worse than PG Pat? What worse could happen if your first round pick played for 13 minutes instead of Green?

Looking forward there is clearly some progress in the team. This game should be a major boost in Jackson's confidence, whish should be huge given that Milwaukee absolutely needs to make him an NBA starting SG. There is no other in this roster for that job since both Trent and Green look better coming from the bench.

Like last year, will that even matter? Middleton being out will force Giannis and Dame to push themselves to point they could be injured. They need him to meaningfully contribute for most of the regular season or his playoff play might be meaningless.

Yep. That's why he should've been trade two years ago. Mids is injury prone at this point in his career and he is eating up a significant amount of cap space.

If Mids isn't there come playoff time, then you'll be right, but as of now he's the only guy you can rely on when it matters.

Cool. Giannis should rest until its the playoffs too. Bucks will be unstoppable.

Giannis is almost 30, decorated from head to toe, living legend NBA royalty, and still getting the “rookie” treatment from officials. Infuriating.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
