Hmmm....let's reword that, shall we? I want the team to trade AD for
picks and/or young players. Ok...
That's a totally different animal than just wanting them to leave the team. Hell no, I don't want AD to "leave this team"! That would be completely wasteful and foolish. I want the team to get the maximum assets for him, before it's too late. Very different.
I've stated that I don't think Lebron will bring much, and he has his no-trade clause. So if we have to keep, that's fine. I'd LOVE it if we could find a trade partner that made both sides happy...and we were able to get a pick or two out of the deal....but AD is the real "bar of gold" imo.
I want to REBUILD. I think AD and Lebron have run their course. Yes...I understand that if we had been able to get someone like Donavan Mitchell....or somehow Ant-man decides he wants out, and demands coming to Lakers....then I would be ok with dumping 3-4 picks, and anything else needed to get that type of player. (This is all stuff, and exact names I've said many times btw).
For one.....under this AMAAAAZZZZZIIINNNGGGLLLLYYYYY unreal scenario...you would still have a relatively young superstar when AD and Lebron leave. THAT makes the picks worth it. 2ndly....if you wanted to could trade that player away after AD and Lebron leave...you'd you reclaim most...if not all...of your picks back for him...so you'd be in more or less same position, except you hopefully won a title with those 3. <-------Now I never did think of this scenario as real....I'm just saying that if it were a possibility, I'd have been ok with shoveling the rebuild. But I've been shouting for a rebuild for a couple years now.....NOT just getting rid of AD and Lebron cause I don't like them, or something.
2nd point of yours.....No...I don't want to stay put....I want to REBUILD!!! I don't think this team is one or two "improvements" away from a title. I think this team is either 2-3 really, really solid role players....or a major game-changer (like Donovan Mitchell, or a Jimmy Butler of a few years back - level player). You tell me De'Aaron Fox wants to come, or something...then I'm all in. But it's gonna need to be one hell of a player, or its gonna need to be 2-3 guys who are legit perfect-fit, reliable role guys...guys who give you good 12-15 point games on a regular basis, and who play their part well. <-----neither of these scenarios are coming for a couple picks. Your gonna need to go ALL- ALL in. Now since we don't have our pick next year...I think (someone may be able to correct me) that we couldn't do more than 3 picks as it is. Your just not getting the talent needed to essentially ensure a title (yes....if we're completely mortgaging our future for a decade - you'd better be DAMN sure a title is coming).
And we haven't even got into making the salaries work.
Yeah, this start is nice. It's been better than I thought. JJ has shown himself to, at the very least, have basic coaching skills...which is something I was not willing to assume before the start of the season. But I'm not getting ahead of my skis here. This team hasn't looked close to a title in about 4 years. I know we made it to WC finals....but then we finally played a "good" team, and got swept. We're not close. That's why I jumped into the conversation. No....I'm still here. And despite a pretty nice (albeit somewhat disingenuous....considering the teams we are feasting on) start to the season.....my opinion hasn't changed in the least. We shoulda started rebuilding 2 summers back. And really should have started rebuild this last offseason. I think we'll regret this big-time.
