Bleacher Report proposes Amir Coffey for Jaden Springer.
Great trade if you're the Cs.
I don't think Clips will trade Coffey.
He's playing great bball this season.

I think any move Springer is involved with it's gonna cost us a pick. I really had high hopes for the kid. As a GM it's all about those swings, but I'm sure Stevens took that one a little hard. I've posted early on that I'm sure Cassell had a little input in that move and now when they cross paths in the hallway Stevens gives him "the look".

That seems a bit dramatic.
-Cassell helped us win Banner 18 so I'm sure him and Brad's relationship is fine
-We don't know how much (if any) input Cassell had in the C's acquiring Springer. When Stevens was interviewed after the trade, he said they acquired him because he's a guy they were interested in leading up to the 2021 draft (before Cassell was part of the C's org) and he also mentioned that Springer impressed them during the preseason game where the C's played against Philly, that they like his defense, his athleticism, his upside since he's so young, etc. He didn't say anything about "Sam said great things about him" although when we traded for white, we did hear reports about former spurs assistants like Hardy and Udoka pushing for white
-Springer hasn't worked out great here but we're still just 14 games into his first full season with the team. Springer has missed games last season and this season with a knee injury. And where's the playing time supposed to come from, on the deepest, most talented team in the league, coming off a championship? He's an end of the bench guy, on a rookie contract, who we traded a mid 2nd round pick for. Even if he doesn't work out, it's no real loss. We're still heavy favorites to win the championship. We're still 11-3, without Porzingis. It's not like Springer is some quarterback who we traded 5 1st round picks for, and we have no one else who can play QB and as a result of him playing poorly the team is 1-8..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

The C's are roughly 7.6mil over the 2nd apron?
They aren't allowed to attach 1st rd picks to any trades?
They aren't allowed to attach 1st rd picks to any trades?

I'm also of the opinion that nothing needs to be done now with Springer. It appears that he is not going to be getting many minutes, even when we are missing Brown or Holiday, so if that is the case, yeah, he may be overpaid for his contribution, but not so much that the team needs to give up on him and find an immediate replacement. The bench is already quite full and there are guys like Scheierman, Davison, Peterson, Watson and perhaps even my new squeeze Ward (for the future) that are playing up in Maine and can contribute a few minutes when called upon.
If a great deal comes up that is mutually beneficial for both teams + the players, then sure, but I'd rather not sell low on Springer. He may be the kind of guy that sticks around and gets re-signed here next summer on a team friendly contract and then suddenly blossoms within the system.
Brad often takes the long view on developing young players. If he sees something in Springer I'm fine with waiting for at least a full season to see what we have in him.

Two moves the Celtics should make before the Deadline:
- Tillman and a couple of Future Seconds for a Better Big who can contribute more in the next two seasons...
- Springer and a Second for Cap Relief... and sign Walker...

Tillman doesn't really need to go.
Once KP returns, there's just no minutes left with Al and Queta being the 2 bigs behind KP.

I think it's only fair to give Tillman until January.

What big who we could realistically acquire via trade is significantly better than Tillman and makes a salary that is equal or less than Tillman's?
I doubt there is a player who fits that but genuinely curious..
Also, probably not worth it to trade Tillman (who has a multi year contract) and all that draft capital for a guy who likely won't even be in the playoff rotation.
Tillman only makes like $2 mil. That really limits our options..anyone we trade him for, they can't make more $ than Tillman..

That's true.
It's hard to trade a minimum salary player for another minimum salary player who will be better than what the Celtics are giving up.

They can't attach a 1st rd pick to any trade right?

I think they can.
From what I've read, there's no rule that says 2nd apron teams can't package their 1st round pick in a trade.

Pickings, after further research are light, but you could do Tillman and a 2nd for either Yabs or Theis' expiring contracts.
I think those two fit better with what Mazzulla seems to want from his Bigs this season.
Interestingly enough, you could trade Tillman & whatever Picks for Banton - not that helps the Center position, but it improves
the bench.

I think they can't attach a future 1st pick because it could be taken away if they remain in the 2nd apron 3 years in a row. If they can attach their 25' 1st I'd love this move: It will involve San Antonio again because IMO, they should do everything to tank for Flagg. Wemby and Flagg would be a great combo for the NBA. It would stink for Flagg to go to Tor, Was or Philly.
Spurs get Springer and C's 25' 1st
C's get Champagnie
Spurs need to move some other pieces like Barnes/CP3 to go full tank mode. If there's a year to go for it it's this year.

Yeah, the pick will be frozen, but the earliest is 2032.
Champagnie for Springer works.
But is Brad interested in Champagnie?

Checks a bunch of boxes. Young, good shooter, good size, comes from a good system and cheap for a few years.
