The summer of 2024 was a good one for the Brunson family.
First, New York Knicks assistant coach Johnnie Bryant left to join the Cleveland Cavaliers' staff — leading to a promotion for assistant coach Rick Brunson. Then, Rick's son — guard Jalen Brunson — inked a team-friendly extension with the Knicks.
For the NBA, however, it appears these events were a little too good to be true. According to a Monday night report from Ian Begley of SNY, the NBA has opened an investigation into whether the Brunsons' machinations constituted cap circumvention — an insinuation that has drawn furious blowback from New York.

TBH, I've always thought there was a lil money going under the table. However, I'm sure (or at least hope) the KNICKS are aware of how things looked to the league and expected (once Jalen took that huge pay cut) that the league would come snooping.
That’s how Leon rolls. It’ll be a problem one day. He’s a POS. And I’m the only one here who’s had any direct personal experience with him.

Have you shared that story here ever?

Having players take $1 less than the league min to avoid aprons
Having our star player take a significant discount to build a champion
Having our star player’s pops on the bench/ coaching staff.
When we have the chips roll our way, it’s “tampering” that warrants investigation.
When other teams circumvent it’s genius.
GTFO, we rolling now, rest of the league, deal with it

I think the Brunson "Discount" is overblown, since he got paid the max, just less than he'd have gotten if he'd waited a year, but he can sign a 2nd contract sooner, and players have taken pay cuts to help their team win before, so this is a big nothing.
Daddy Brunson got a position that opened up when the Cavs nabbed one of our coaches, so also, a big nothing. That said, I'm sure the league isn't happy with the dollar over minimum used in trade loophole that the Knicks found, and maybe they'll take another 2nd round pick from NY. I don't imagine it'll be anything worse than that.

How could they punish a team for exploiting a legal loophole? Close the loophole if they want but if Knicks didn't violate a rule how can they bring a sanction?

Cuban literally threw an NBA game and the league did nothing
Adam Silver is a bitch.
