Pretty much our preseason slate the last few years. Al has been smart and skipping most those games so the teams are hopefully slightly less scared of making the playoffs and facing him.

Kenny Atkinson coached Al Horford in Atlanta 10+ years ago. I asked him postgame about Al’s longevity:

“The shooting piece is incredible. Before he needed time to get it off, now, he needs no time… It’s an incredible story. I love the guy. He’s the epitome of a professional.”

After almost 40 years of watching, my favorite Celtics have to be (not in order):

Larry, Robert, Dennis, Reggie, Rick Fox, Dee Brown, Sherman(!), Pierce, Garnett, Ray, Marcus, Jaylen, Jayson, Al, Derrick, Jrue
If I have to cut it down to 5 I think there's a chance Al is still on the list:
Larry, Reggie, Paul, KG, Al

Never really liked McHale as much as others seemed to
Antoine went from big yes to big no on this list
Ainge and Dana Barros are close, as are some randoms like Tony Battie

TLDR: I love Al Horford and he has beautiful eyes
Paul Pierce appreciation society.

Let's hope this thread changes to confirms he will play in 2025/26)
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

I always liked Kenny Atkinson. It's a shame he has zero 1st round picks until 2073. He's done a decent job when he had 1st round picks.

AL's thread needs to be moved back to the first page. :D

17 starts, 28mpg, 10ppg, 5reb, 41% 3pt while averaging a sliver over his high in shots per game. The guys a machine and he's been hitting daggers in big games.

If they want to bring him back they'll have to free up money. Is a 2yr 10mil with the 2nd year being a player option possible?

It’s gon hurt me so much when Al Horford retires. We found the one guy who defends Giannis and Embiid better than anybody in basketball

I feel the same way. What he gives on offense in this marquee matchups is just gravy. Still haven't found an adequate replacement.

Re-posting my favorite cherry-picked stat for Horfie:

Image

He won't pass Dirk in threes made since he started shooting them late, but he's at least shooting them as well as Dirk did (38% from 3 in career).

EDIT: Should've just removed the points filter to make it look less sad lol. Vlade Divac the only one who would be added to the list.

We'll probably get at least 1 more maybe 2 more years of AL guarding Giannis, but at this point in Embiid's career I don't think we have much to worry about. :D

Until 11/24/2024, 14 games (11-3): 10/5/2/1/1 on 50/45/100 splits in 27.8 mpg; 66.7% TS%, +10.7 net rating
Since 11/25/2024, 14 games (8-6): 7/5/2/.5/1 on 35/28/67 splits in 27.7 mpg; 45.7% TS%, +10.5 net rating

Cutoff is date KP came back and Al started shuffling between starting and coming off bench. At least net rating hasn't been affected despite the very poor shooting.

Brad should resign Al to a 2-year 20 mil contract with 2nd year a player option so Al can decide if he wants to stick around for 2 more years. He is still the best big/ part time starter off the bench in the league.

Because of luxury tax, 10m will be like 17m.

Cs just can't afford that.

The starting 5 will already reach around 197m in total next season.
