Re: GT: Hornets at Nets Tues Nov 19 7:30PM
Also, seeing a lot incorrect chatter saying LaMelo was benched the whole 4th quarter... which is wrong. Lee put LaMelo back in with 7:15 left which is pretty standard in a 100-100 ball game.
He missed a 21 ft stepback deep 2 with 10 seconds on shot clock.
Missed a 28 ft three pointer.
Went 1 on 3 fast break and missed a floater with 20 seconds on shot clock when we are down 1.
Then immediately fouled in the backcourt.
Lee pulled him after with 3:48 left.
If LaMelo would have played well in that 3 min stretch he finishes the game 10/10 times.

He's been shooting deep shots and early shots all year, if you just clap and buttslap when they go in and react and wring your hands and bench when they miss, thats not coaching. thats being a fan with a clipboard. fix it in the film room
If you want to send a message, bench him when he’s 4/4 in the first quarter and we’re up 10 doing those same shots. It cant be acceptable when it’s working and unacceptable when it’s not

So even though Tre, Miles and Miller were all playing better last night. You would have rather lost knowing LaMelo just didn't have it? You would rather him shoot and miss then give anyone else a chance?

It’s certainly an odd moment to start applying those standards I’d say. Miller would be on the bench next to Micic picking up DNPs if we wanna act like an NBA roster is a meritocracy

Are we saying it's not a good idea to ride the hot hand on a nightly basis?
"Melo ride or die" screams Linsanity to me

I think you are too worried about Optics. If Seth Curry had 15 pts and was 5/6 from three last night and Miller was 3/18 I don't think the entire world would be up in arms over Curry playing the last 4 mins over Miller.
Again if Melo plays and we lose the game you would be happier than you are now, take a second to think how weird that it is.

right because if Melo plays and we lose the game I can just shrug and say, yeah we suck. this is a known entity because i've been harping on our lack of talent for a while now. i know we suck
instead we lost the game and our coach made a fool of himself (in multiple ways) in a public chastising of our franchise player and personally choked the game away himself right afterwards. even if he did treat Brandon Miller like that, which I don't think Lee's short history here has shown at all by the way lol as Miller has been playing like **** for a while now and pulling 35 minutes every night, you don't treat your star players the way you treat a decent sophomore player. so now i have to contend with the known fact that we suck and the emerging fact that our coach kind of sucks too which is disappointing, yes.

A whole lot of absolutes being drawn there.
If benching Melo when he's playing poorly is considered making a fool of yourself then this team is already way too far gone culturally.

This sounds like you run a LaMelo Ball Muse account. It is one game, do we really need to act like this?

I mean, this is just the current issue, it’s not like you couldn’t point at simple stuff like inbounding, breaking down full court presses, having the same attitude to any of the guys on our team pulling stupid turnovers time after time down the floor, game losing technical fouls, yalls “system” stuff
There’s not been a lot to like. We look poorly prepared, struggle with fundamentals, sloppy on both ends, and rely on unsustainable shooting as our main winning strategy. I’m looking for evidence of good coaching and finding very little to like. I guess he had all the guys there at summer league or whatever. That’s like a Hornets championship right there, put a banner up.

Lamelo had the most turnovers which was main reason we lost as team and shot the worst % last night, he is also one of our worst defenders. It is one game. LaMelo has been awesome and we probably have 1 win without him so I don't think anyone is trying to bring him down. It is not like we announced he is coming off the bench next game. It was the final 4 mins of one game. Everyone needs to relax.
Even if Charles Lee made the wrong call, again it was one game. If Tre Mann goes biserk and we win because of him last night nobody is freaking out.
A lot of positives we can take from the game too. If Miller and Miles can play that well moving forward, if we get an average Melo game we will win more games then we lose.

thats fine, we'll see what happens. the good thing about being pessimistic as a Hornets fan is that you're always proven right in the long run. I don't think there was anything good about that game other than wildly hot shooting variance which to me is mostly irrelevant, especially if you still completely fail to squeeze a win out of a rare one like that. when we're shooting our normal %s and down 20pt in the first half next game I won't say I told you so.

Brandon Miller best overall game of the year. Not just shooting 6/8 inside the arc. 3 steals and a block
Tidjane best overall game of the year. 6/7 from FT, 8 boards, 2 blocks
Tre Mann best game since Nov 1st.
But yes nothing good. Lol
Again, we lost by 1 pt. I swear you are acting like we lost by 50.

just not sold on the punitive coaching. If Melo taking crazy mistimed shots is a problem, that problem didn't all of a sudden appear last night in the 4th quarter. He's been doing it 4 quarters of every game so far.
It's either the gameplan, or its not the gameplan. It can't be that it is the gameplan when he's hitting everything and suddenly its not the gameplan because he isn't hitting them. again, that isn't coaching. thats being a fan with a clipboard. that what fans do. thats what makes you think they had a good game last night. if its truly not the gameplan, bench him in the 1st quarter after nailing a 30 footer to put us up 15. send a real message. if it is the gameplan, stick with it to learn and polish it up in the film room. whatever he did last night was the worst possible messaging

I think the gameplan changes night to night. Yes when everyone is sucking and Melo has 35 pts and is carrying the squad then yeah him hoisting from 30 feet with 16 seconds on the shot clock is probably fine. When we have 3 other guys rolling and as a team we are shooting 50% from 3 then maybe working it around for a clean look is probably the right call in that moment.
I really think it had less to do with Melo playing badly and more so guys around him playing well. Tre Mann was booming on dudes and hitting 30 footers, getting to the rim all game. In a game where we needed stops late pulling your worst defender off the floor for a guy that is playing just as well offensively for 1 night seems fine.
Miller had 29 pts on 17 shots, maybe giving him some closing touches made sense?

Ehh, I am fine with benching Melo as long as he can grasp why and learn from it. Tanking to keep the pick is ok if Mark is not returning soon.

Re: GT: Hornets at Nets Tues Nov 19 7:30PM
Why does it have to be so black and white? LaMelo wasn't benched in favor of "the hot hand" regardless of what Lee says publicly. I don't think LaMelo himself has a problem with Lee playing the hot hand if it's going to lead to a win. But we weren't protecting a lead, we were struggling to keep up with their scoring and put a lineup on the floor that not only could not defend in the last 3 mins (until Cody finally got a try) but also couldn't score or play mistake free on offense. I would've pulled LaMelo after the back court foul too. The refs were incredibly inconsistent all night and it was making things even more frustrating, so why not just pull LaMelo to cool him down and put him back in to close with Mann, Miller, Cody, Grant? Or at least play defense vs offense. Or you know, when we're down 3 and have 5 seconds left maybe put your best scorer on the floor? It was a bad look, it didn't help us win and it probably sent the wrong message to everyone including the fans.

Melo has been making the same dumb plays in the same situations since his rookie year. No issue here with coach calling him out for it from time to time. Maybe coach drew a line in the sand last night and it will continue moving forward if it happens again. Lets see what happens.

Re: GT: Hornets at Nets Tues Nov 19 7:30PM
Lee is simply holding Melo accountable for his shot selection. Yeah it's fun when he makes them, but some of them just kills the flow of the game. It's a bad habit and Lee is trying to break those bad habits.
Are you guys expecting us to make a playoff run with this roster?
We have been dealing with injuries all year and we already sitting on 5 wins with a unhealthy roster. I think we are heading in the right direction with Lee. These games we are losing are competitive and we doing it with a roster that's dealing with key injuries. If we had our full roster we probably sitting above .500 right now.
Chill with the Lee slander please.
