Dame is better at shooting over the top of the defense, and from farther out, and he’s better at getting by his man, but Khris can also get off shots that Dame would struggle to get off within the half court.

This doesn’t need to be an either-or situation, though; it’s good to have both.

If Dame thought shooting mid-range shots over cats was an efficient and smart way to play basketball then he would do that in games and practice better than how KM does it because he's a superior talent. Fortunately, Dame has been well coached and listened to his coaches that taught him contested long 2s are the dirty toilet-bowl of all shot selections. So the skill you're referencing is an irrelevant one. We have the talent to get fouled, get layups and open 3s EVERY possession. Also, passing over the defense or using bounce passes is inconsequential.. bounce passes likely have a better chance of not getting taken or tipped. Dame being better at 3's, getting to the line, dribbling, and bounce passes makes him better at all the most efficient and meaningful parts of offensive basketball. Defensively, they both have decent hands for steals but Dame is a little quicker so he gets a little more and KM is longer so gets a little more blocks. Seems like Dame is in position more often but both get scored on, I think.

That's a weird collection of teams though. Where does Cam Thomas fit on any contender? Dude is an absolute bucket-getter, but he's legitimately one of the laziest and worst defenders in the league. In addition to having some of the worst tunnel vision I've ever seen from a high usage guard.

Giannis becoming more of a center ala KG absolutely makes sense in theory.

But if he's not going to commit to setting hard screens / defense / rebounding somewhat at the expense of being the primary ball handler and scorer -- than would we need someone bigger than 6'8 who can do those things (including blocking shots) as the long term Brook replacement in the starting lineup?

Brook's impact on rebounding (but he's good at boxing out!) is completely overblown. At some point, rebounding has to mean grabbing the damn ball. The Bucks are dead last in offensive rebounding % so that's not getting any worse. Putting a 4 next to Giannis with some athleticism and motor to go get the ball would help make up for Giannis's lack of fundamentals on the glass. I'll also gladly swap the added defensive versatility & switchability for Brook's shot blocking.

Brook just had a nice game, and I think he still has some trade value to a contender, but that clock is ticking fast. Sell high now.

They also stick Brook 30 feet from the basket on offense to stay out of Giannis's way. Might have something to do with that offensive rebounding percentage ranking.

I think Brook being where he usually is on offense is mostly needed because he's otherwise not going to be able to back in the play in any kind of even semi-transition situation.

Does Bovada still have the Bucks as the favorite to win the PJ Tucker "Sweepstakes"? :-?

This would be so short sighted and awful for the team.

Is anyone in our FO looking at our situation and really thinking “if only we had Cam Thomas we could turn this around.”

This is a move a desperate GM makes to save his job in the short term. Trading that first for someone like Cam Thomas will haunt us big time.

It just doesn't make any sort of sense roster wise. I half-jokingly said last year that maybe we just lean all-in on offense and try to out-score teams, but even then, there are better targets that compliment Dame/Giannis than a shameless shot-merchant who's absolutely worthless off-ball or in any other capacity other than shooting/ISO scoring on a basketball court. He's not even the best Cam on his own team.

I think we need a tertiary perimeter creator who is a good defender, plays with a high IQ, and willing to be more of a role player when Khris returns.

Basically, we need a version of Derrick White.

I keep coming back to Donte. He’s not White; he’s White Donte.

People really could not fathom that you could have Thanasis on the team for basketball reasons that did not involve he himself not sucking wet ass at basketball.

What about NAW? A bit redundant with DDV and Minny cannot (realistically) re-sign him. Not sure if Memphis would view Bobby as an upgrade over Aldama, but:

MKE: NAW, Aldama
MEM: Portis
MIN: LaRavia, MKE '31 2nd

Bucks get: Tari Eason, Cam Johnson, Jordan Poole

Bucks slip just under the 2nd apron. Poole is back to his 21-22 form, when he helped the Warriors win the ship, and is averaging 22 ppg with a 61 TS%. He'd give Giannis his 1st 3 point shooting PG of his career.

The Bucks now have an ultra versatile roster with Johnson, who can play the 2-4 and provide the playoff 3 point shooting we've always needed. Eason unlocks Giannis at center lineups with his rebounding and rim protecting while also being switchable. Portis trade still to come.

I'm fine with the idea, especially knowing how much you like Eason, but at some point the contradictions with some guys just have to make sense.

The first three point shooting guard Giannis has ever played with to you would be a 34% career shooter whose best season (that championship year) he shot 36%. He's every bit as much of simply a gunner as Dame is if we're being honest. His current stretch of 13 games shooting is simply nowhere what he is likely to round out being. He hasn't shot over 40% from three in a month since the 21-22 season where he did it once, hell Dame did it twice last season.

If you weren't being a contrarian, you'd likely admit that Poole shooting under 28% from 3 as a 20 year old rookie is fairly irrelevant to how he'll shoot at a 25-27 year old.

You'd probably also admit that you're fully aware of Poole's journey, how he completely lost focus after winning the Finals and getting a fat contract, and how he needed help after Draymonds sucker punch knocked him out.

You'd probably even admit that you're aware of how anyone who has seen him play this year will tell you he looks like and had built upon the player he was at 21-22, the player the Warriors gave a max extension to.

If you weren't being a contrarian, and instead decided not to contradict your own knowledge, you'd probably tell me the relevant data suggests he projects to being a serious 3 point shooter from ages 25-27.

If you remove his rookie year his three point career average is...... 34%. He's been in the league 4 full seasons since then and again, one month out of those 4 full seasons has he posted a three point percentage over 40%. Those 4 seasons his WIDE OPEN three point shooting is 38%, for reference Dame was at 40% last season and the last four years he's at 49%. His catch and shoot topped out at 38% that championship year and averages out around 35-36%. For a dude who used to be all about the stats (granted only when they match your argument) your new found faith in the "journey" is funny.

Let's also acknowledge one reason we might want to trade Dame is defense and well, Jordan Poole, yeah.......

I get why you love Tari Eason, I get why you'd want to do the trade, trying to upsell Jordan Poole with all the **** you talk about Dame is again, funny. But sure man, maybe the switch flipped and his Draymond PTSD is gone and it bumped his shooting up 10 points. If that's what you want to believe there's no arguing.

Worse at shooting especially catch & shoot, worse at defending, worse at creating for others. Dame gets more shots off and to the FT line better.

Don't think he'll ever be the shooter that White has become but yeah, I think Anthony Black will probably be a pretty awesome player. Posted it a little earlier in the thread but some Sporting News fake Dame trade thing had a Black/Issac/picks for Dame trade and not even as a trade Dame guy that doesn't seem like the worst we could do. It'd be a weird shift and we'd probably go back to times of the Giannis wall where our offense can do nothing though, especially until/if/unless Midds ever wants to put on some Nike's again.
