Rob Manfred Pushing For Majors To Adopt ABS System By 2026

Major League Baseball will test an automated ball-strike system during this coming spring training.

Rob Manfred confirmed the decision this week, adding that the long-term goal is to have an ABS system in place before the 2026 season.

Doing so, however, would require reaching an agreement with the umpires\' union. The current collective bargaining agreement between MLB and the Major League Baseball Umpires Association expires on Dec. 1.

I don't believe the ABS system would eliminate the umps. They would simply relay the call (ball or strike). I'm unsure why they would be opposed to it, unless there is a monetary change.

Otherwise, it takes the umps out of the cross hairs of criticism.
