Two very nice Mormon Elders approached me to enter their temple. I've always thought the name of this team - Jazz - was a bit to racy for Salt Lake City, so I asked them about The Jazz. One said to me, "We don't like to talk about that."

I always found it super weird that they never changed the name. The words "Utah" and Jazz are like oil and water.

I used to "briefly date" a gal who went to Bringham Young years ago. The pictures she showed me of Salt Lake City were gorgeous. I have zero interest in ever visiting Utah but man. Beautiful scenery.

The name "Jazz" should have stayed with New Orleans and not automatically transferred to Utah -- just like the "Lakers" name should have stayed in Minnesota and never been sent to Los Angeles and the "Grizzlies" have no business being in Memphis.

If a team moves locations, the league should force a name change. They did it when the "Hornets" moved to New Orleans and can do it again.

Jazz avg 109 points per game. Our goal coming into this one should be holding them under 100pts. We already know we’re gonna score and win the game no problem but we have to start building our defensive identity.

Suns game should’ve been a 30 point blowout and this game should be too. I want us to put up 120 and not let them get 100

But no one likes the New Orleans Pelicans

Sometimes the name just works, and it rolls off the tongue. It doesn't have to make sense.

I went to a game in Charlotte when it was the last year of the Bobcats name. It was March. It was weird how they were already pushing the new Hornets merch in the gift shops, and selling off Bobcats stuff at a discount.

I still recall MJ sitting at the very end of the Charlotte bench, and thinking that must be weird for the players, and Steve Clifford. Also it was Kyrie 's rookie year, and my thought was this is a taller young Isiah Thomas.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

It was either that or The New Jersey Swamp Dragons.

No, I am not kidding.

Back in the 90s, the Nets petitioned the league to change the name to the Swamp Dragons.

First of all, I don't know what a Swamp dragon is. We don't have dragons in New Jersey. Not that dragons exist, but if they did, they wouldn't live here. It's a stupid name for a team regardless.

So anyway, the league inexplicably okay'd the name change, paid a half a mil to secure the name rights, trademarks, logo, all that stuff. David Stern then put the branding change up for a vote, which i believe had to be unanimous for it to happen.

26 teams voted yes. 1 team voted no.

That team was the Nets, who suddenly changed their mind at the last second.

To say the least, David Stern was absolutely furious about it.

Never heard that one before. Wild if true.

Time for us to build on what we have been doing the last 4 games. I kind of like playing 'lesser' teams right now so we can continue to build up the chemistry on the court together. Dallas likely to be without Luka too. I don't know if we are ready to dominate consistently as that would mean the chemistry has fully gelled but I am hoping for a 3-2 trip. Lets see what happens.

Of course if they have fully gelled or gelled 'enough' then maybe it could be 3-2 or even 4-1. If they are still tinkering and/or still getting to figure each other out then 2-3 is certainly possible as well.

The offensive was scoring without brunson being bronson... Last game might have been a taste of what it looks like when everyone is truly clicking. Exciting.

Don’t forget how bad Phoenix was though … we have what it takes, but so do many other teams.

Return to New York Knicks
