How far?
Day trips? A week long adventure? Drive time each day?

What do you enjoy? Outdoors? Food? Music? Museums?

Thanks for asking. I like diners. Maybe my favorite place on the planet is a diner in Rice Lake. It's run by grandmas and their kids and it closes by 1:30 PM every day.

I think my ideal roadtrip over the next week would be motels I'm barely at, walking distance to dive bars with loud music, and greasy breakfast joints.

ETA: And seeing some cool natural stuff would be great too.

Do you need to be anyplace for Thanksgiving?

It's my favorite holiday but I think the people in my life would be happy if I opted to ditch them and go to, like, the Badlands for a weekend. I have hundreds of hours of vacation that I don't use.

One last question, places you don't want to go?

Inside or outside of Wisconsin?

That's two questions.

Marquette? Depends what you mean by dive bars and may be more of summer thing but they seemed to have a lot of loud music and decent hikes near-by. Pictured rocks would be a good day trip and just amazing.

I have two cats. One of them is a older, wiser, but less active with age. The other is sweeter, cuter, and way more active, but is also a scaredy cat and a blithering idiot.

The blithering idiot has learned how to open our pantry door (I've witnessed him doing it) but is too dumb to get to the treats.

The older one knows how to open doors, I think, but he's older so it's harder for him to get to the door handle. I've never seen him do anything but sit in front of the door and meow for us to come over and give him treats.

So, I assumed that when I saw the pantry door open in the morning and half opened treat bags strewn all over the floor, that it was the blithering idiot who figured it out. It wouldn't be surprising, as he gorges on everything within reach.

However, this morning, I discovered the true culprit when I walked in on the older one tearing into some treats as the younger one stood idly by.

Basically, I think the older one is convincing his younger brother to open the door for him. Then he gorges on whatever treats he can leap to.

And now I'm shopping for baby proofing for the pantry handle.

So, here we go: Dubuque is a surprisingly good time, and the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is amazing. Plus you could tour around to Cedar Rapids and Davenport.

Nature stuff: Rapid City, SD. Badlands, Devils tower, Black Hills NF.

Or you could do a Northern Wisco jaunt, Superior/Duluth, Ashland, Ironwood, Marquette MI....

Or there's Michigan, Sand Dunes national park, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo -- although that might be more brewery touring than dive-baring.

You could also spend a week in West Allis and barely hit 25% of the bars there.

Be ambitious, Packer game Thursday night at Lambeau, Ax game in Madison Friday morning (Ax games are always fun regardless of the team's record), Bucks game at FiServ Saturday night.

Awesome suggestions. Thank you much.

But you know what I just looked up? Flights out of Eau Claire to Fort Myers are only $60. I feel like someone around here should have told me that before today. Hotels down there are surprisingly cheap too.

I'm not even much of a Florida/warm weather fan, but I might just go down there for a bit to eat some good seafood.

Yea those cheap airline direct flights are nice, can't go wrong with that getting one last batch of sun.

I was gonna say if you don't hate driving and wanted to get more out of the WI/MN area to make a trip down the Mississippi. Hit Dubuque as someone said, STL, Memphis, could keep going to New Orleans or turn around go back at that point. Memphis isn't as far as one might think. Memphis seems to check off your live music, dive bar type vibe, plus they have an NBA team right on the main drag if you time it right. I was solo for that leg of it, easily made friends before and after the game just hanging out on Beale.

I did this from WI a few weeks ago to go to LSU/Bama and some days in New Orleans. Stopped in Memphis to see Lebron on the way. Stopped in STL on the way back. But I know I'm weird in that I don't mind driving at all, listening to music/pods and spacing out is fine by me. Side note, its surprising for such a tourist location that flight to New Orleans are so difficult/expensive, that combined with not being able to commit to the trip until a few days before driving prices through the roof made me go the drive route.
