Best shooting guard for expiring and Houston's convoluted 25 pick
Trying to think on who Houston can get at SG for some of their expirings and their pick. Don't think they'll trade Jalen bc hubris but they need an alternative scorer. Reed isn't ready and they could be very good this season with just an average starting shooting guard that's offensively tilted.
Pick situation is this:
IF Houston's pick is top ten
OR Houston has a better record than the clippers
OR Houston's pick is worse than OKCs
THEN the pick is the best of Houston and PHX
ELSE
The pick is the best of PHX and OKC
So as of today it would be the 19th pick

Re: Best shooting guard for expiring and Houston's convoluted 25 pick
what would Houston be looking for? 3&D? scorer? secondary playmaker? defender?
because you could get Anf Simons, Smart, or anything in between that's quite a range given how competitive the West is. That pick could be anything.

investigate Adam Silver

Re: Best shooting guard for expiring and Houston's convoluted 25 pick
Steven Adams, Jae'Sean Tate, and the 2025 1st to Sacramento
- Replaces Huerter (whose been having a down year and a half) with a defensive and energy wing and a big body to add to their center rotation. They also add the 1st to keep or reroute it with the $20M in expirings that the Rockets have for a player suited for whatever they need.
Kevin Huerter to Houston
- Adds a movement and spot up shooter that the offense needs. He's also locked in for an extra year.

Most have felt Simons is worth a later pick and exprings, trade offers Portland that, Portland needs to see what Scoot has this year and its time to move on from Simons, as long as we get expirings back with a later pick I am good

... Sam Merrill maybe? I'd probably go after Whitmore first if I'm the Cavs, but Merrill is a luxury piece on the Cavs' roster that they may not be able to retain next year.

They got him for 3 seconds and he's done nothing to increase his value, first would be an overpayesvl wrote:Kennard

Is this too cheap for Sexton? Have seconds to toss in as well if that helps

I think its close enough to close the gap. And I think that's who my first target would be.

I think you misunderstand the organization's desire to win now.
They are prioritizing internal development and they have two young SGs with potential.

Re: Best shooting guard for expiring and Houston's convoluted 25 pick
There's got to be a balance. Jalen is in his fourth year, they should not burn another year when they could be awesome hoping he puts it together when he's shooting career lows from all over the floor while leading the team in usage. At least give the other guys a chance to make a push with someone else they deserve it. Jalen being what he is right now with a absurdly long leash is preventing the young guys that are actually good from seeing how good a team with them can beLarsV8 wrote:I think you misunderstand the organization's desire to win now.

Yep. Team is legit good now. You hurt development by not allowing those kids have a chance to experience playoffs especially with a chance to do something there. Plenty of young guys are getting minutes and if Green can't hold off a veteran acquired this cheaply then what development do you realistically expect?
I mean this is why Brooks and VanVleet on are the team. You develop talent best by playing competitive games that mean something not just playing a bunch of kids in what becomes 25 minutes of garbage time a night.

I think we would need a promising young player included.
But, maybe I over value Sexton. I'm willing to die on the hill that you folks have undervalued Kessler all year. But with Sexton I'm willing to cede ground if folks think I'm crazy.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Sexton, and we might be able to send back some seconds or some other minor balancing.

Unfortunately there are so many awesome small combo guards that I think it affects the value. If we can get a first for Sexton I think we should take it and run.
