Does anyone think Embiid could take a year off and come back good at basketball? I'm skeptical.

He also can’t play a game without being hurt, so what gives lol
always a jump shot away.

At least if he takes off during the year he is required to work with team doctors and trainers. There's no chance Joel uses the off-season to work on getting his knee right.

I’m skeptical too. The bigger issue is that we won’t be able to build solid chemistry with our players. Embiid’s style of play requires exceptional chemistry to work effectively, unlike a lead guard who can rely on simpler actions like two-man games and isolations, similar to how Harden operates.

Given what appears to be a condition that's going to have him in and out of the lineup if he doesn't rest and get further medical care for it; then this team isn't going to develop chemistry. The team will be doomed having to flip between two entirely different styles of play.

Can't believe they knew about the knee and still gave him that extension. Morey should be thrown out.

That's the biggest rub out of this entire situation. I got to believe there was an agreement with ownership or Morey that part of Joel being "ok" with last year was him getting his "one team career" extension.

Or just find someone who can build around and have Embiid just play a super role player role. Where you can have Yabu or Drummond fill his role when he’s sitting out games.

Thats why Jimmy and James worked a lot better than what we have now despite the weaker bench depth IMO.

Should be fired for that alone truly.

Embiid now needs to mold himself into the team concept, or he can go elsewhere. And since I don’t think he is capable of molding to a team concept…

And they need a guy who is actually a lead ball handler, and to make him work with Maxey and/or McCain he needs to be taller and defensively solid. Shooting a plus.

He can’t because we dont have a player who can lead the team, except for him.

Let’s say you just mold him into a role player who would allocate 70-80% of his energy on defense, then who’s gonna run the offense? Maxey and McCain aren’t the types who can carry the offense.

Its a completely different equation if we have Jimmy Butler or James Harden than Maxey.

That's the thing that is truly mind blowing. There's no rationalization for doing that if you even suspect there might be a problem with the knee, and it wasn't like it was a secret.

Really, between the absurd PG signing and the Embiid extension, the franchise will be in purgatory unless we are somehow bailed out by a team dumber than the Sixers, as if such an entity could possibly exist.

This is so bad. There is clearly, obviously something very wrong with Embiids knee. I just hope this isn't Andrew Bynum level bad. I'm just not sure what the plan is with him at this point. How did we get this bad this fast? Nine months ago Joel Embiid scored 70 points in a game.
I hate to be that guy, but I did not want him coming back last year after the knee was injured. He damn sure should not have played in the Olympics, and now...We're doing THIS with him. This team continues to play with fire in regards to Joel. It'd be best to shut him down until we/they know what exactly is going on with his knee.
Winning a game feels great. I never root for us to lose...But I'm going to say it. We need to tank this season. See if Joel can get right, see if PG13 is still serious about basketball. Let Maxey and McCain cook.

Observations having just finished watching this mess:

These are by far the best 'city' unis the Sixers have had since they've been doing this. As far as I'm concerned, this could be a regular alternate uni.

Kate and Alaa continue to top themselves when you think it can't possibly get any worse. The other night the shrieking almost made you root for the Sixers to miss, and tonight it was the 'comedy' hour as the team was being embarrassed. Please make it end.

James Harden was the most perfect "2nd star" the Sixers have had during the Embiid era - I don't count Butler because it was half a season. Harden stays healthy, and would have been perfect right now with this Embiid-less unit, running the team, getting Maxey and McCain open looks all night, and putting up 20 and 10 in his sleep.

Nurse could not possibly look less engaged. He appears to have already mailed in the season, as he barely left the bench other than to call timeouts. I'd love to know what the plan is right now, because there doesn't seem to be one.

Harden stats look better than what he actually is because they are actually giving him the calls they refused to call when he was here. And then there's the disappearing act in the playoffs. He'd still be an important piece due to his playmaking, but if his shot isn't falling and they aren't giving him cheap FTs, he's mid. Definitely not worth the contract that he wanted. If we're not counting Butler, prime Ben Simmons was still Embiid's best teammate.

Between Harden and George, I'll take Harden all day, every day. Harden could still run the team without Embiid, but George is just a guy at this point.

For all these No.2 stars beside Joel Embiid : Butler > Harden > Maxey > Ben > Paul George
