the board also thought Branden Carlson could be a starter. Don't give this board too much credit

I think the board had people touting Carlson and people on the otherside.

Battle was universally loved.

No one said he would be a starter. Carlson is a stretch big and in this league stretch bigs have more value than guys like Fernando.

I definitely recall posts saying to trade Poeltl and start Carlson.

For sure there were.

Just like there were a few posts saying to start Shead and have IQ come off the bench

I was definitely start Shead and have Mitchell come off the bench. I guess Darko already knows what he has in Shead and instead had Jakobe start, Mitchell come off the bench and he stepped up!!!!

Is there a Jakobe thread somewhere?

I didn't see anything like that. Even for a tank that doesn't make sense. There's a valid argument for Carlson over Fernando though. One of them a chewed up big that several teams have tried and tossed. Carlson got picked up by OKC, there is some kind of value to him that Masai and Bobby didn't see.

I need the raptors to unleash him against the sixers to undo any pain caused by George Niang, like father like son moment.

You must’ve not been on here in the week or 2 leading up to the season before his release. There were a few people for sure who wanted us to trade Jak and start him

Loved this kid since day 1.

Big fan w/ big expectations for him.

I think he can be a constant 10-14ppg guy off the bench for us, on efficient shooting splits.
In Masai We Trust :meditate:

Wow. That's some serious expectations. I'd be ecstatic with half that consistently. Having an efficient floor-spacing player at the end of the bench would be incredible.

Are they? Bc Fernando has been in the league 5-6 years now and Carlson may not last 1 lmao

That must have been from the tankers.

He's known garbage while the other guy is new. Most likely both are garbage.

Fernando has actually had some really good games this month: 9-4-5, 8-13-2-2...nothing wring with that
It's your 3rd string C, not expecting greatness.

BC...let's see if he even matches Bruno in games played. He is only 10 months younger than Bruno and has 3 minutes of NBA service.

As for Battle, sounds quite articulate with a good head on his shoulders. Get him signed up long term!

I gotta say it doesn’t feel like the FO had a single miss on any of the young guys they brought in (Chomche is TBD but still really positive signs).

On topic though, Battle is such a random steal.

Long live Flanders!

Intelligent, thoughtful, and even keeled. I can see him as a guy who has a long career in the league given his elite shooting and he'll also make the most of his average athleticism with his intelligence.

Almost like we have an elite FO in finding talent, despite what many people on this board tried to spout all offseason.

We are not going to find 4 good players each off-season, but I guess that makes up for the few seasons of finding 0. Just the way **** crumbles sometimes I suppose

something something, but they always trade away their 1sts.

People have a really strange habit of being HYPER critical of our FO but not of others. Again, take the Norm whining.

You hear so much about how we dropped the ball ,terrible trade. We actually got a player that played a lot of consequential minutes for us.

What did Portland get? Check that return, it's super yikes.

It's a twisted view that so many FOs are better than ours when in reality they just aren't.

People get WAY to caught up in results and not process.

The reality is that there is so much outside the control of a FO. Trading a 27yo UFA for a 22yo RFA that (at the time) had potential and was playing quite well is a trade you make 100/100 times. Sometimes it doesnt work out but it doesnt make it a bad move.

You can see it in the TWO thread. People seem to think top 5 pick = instant star. The reality is most top 5 picks simply do not become that, even for the best of FOs, but it does not mean the top 5 isn't still the best place to find good players. However, it is FAR from any sort of guarantee.
