We miss Mitch’ offensive rebounding. We’ve had plenty of trash shooting nights last few years but won because we kept getting 2nd and 3rd opportunities on offense. Right now if we have a trash shooting night we’re toast.

Losing Hartenstein to FA was the pivot. I think people still don't realize how much he did for us the last 2 seasons.
Not that we could do anything about it though. I hope Mitch fixes some of that, for a few weeks anyways before getting injured again.

I am just gonna pretend we traded Randle for Mikal.
Then Donte, Bogi and 6 picks for KAT.
Mikal better pick it up asap.

Re: PG: Knicks vs. Mavericks (They Left Their Offense in Denver)
Right now we have a right to begin to question if Thibs could be part of the problem too.
The hope is we just need to make adjustments and the gelling process is the biggest issue.
The other part of the equation is Sims is a big fat zero out there and we need Achiuwa/Robinson out there badly.
Thibs is running out of time though almost 20 games in before you really start to wonder if he is the best fit for the current make up for the team.
Do we need more of a Kidd, Celts coach, Houston coach, even Jordi Fernandez type coach?
We could also look at it this way....
Over next 9 games the schedule significantly softens up.
Even with a team still finding its identity we should (in theory) go something like 6-3 or 7-2 over next 9.
@KnicksMuse
Knicks Next 9 Games:
@ CHA (6-12)
vs NOP (4-14)
vs ORL (13-7)
vs CHA (6-12)
vs DET (8-11)
@ TOR (4-14)
@ MIN (8-9)
@ NOP (4-14)
vs TOR (4-14)
After that we will be basically a good 30 games into the season.
If we are still inconsistent after being 30 games in when the schedule gets more challenging again then at that point you are seriously going to have to question if Thibs is the best fit for the squad at that point.

Defense and rebounding is absolutely the bigger problem over offensive inconsistency. This team post OG was borderline dominant defensively with one of Mitch or IHart on the floor. That defensive make up is not showing up right now at all as KAT is for all his positives is clearly not a rim protecting 5.
Its looking more and more like Thibs cant coach a team without a rim protector. So either we gotta get those rim protectors back, trade for one or bring in a different coach.

I love Thibs, truly do, his hard-nosed, tough guy defensive mentality. But it's getting clearer to me that he's better suited as a defensive coordinator than a HC, especially in today's game.
He seems to have too much trouble adjusting offensively, and his refusal to expand the rotation is simply unacceptable. If a miracle were to happen and we made it through the season and playoffs without too many injuries on the main guys, we would be way too exhausted physically and mentally in the end anyway to win it all.

He was 4/10 last night. The shot will steadily improve until it’s no longer a story. The real issue is him dying on screens. He has to figure that out.

It could be a lot of things, but mainly being traded for 5 picks automatically put pressure on him, and my theory is he thought changing his shot would give him a desired result quickly, but unfortunately it hasn't come and isn't looking like it's coming soon and he must feel a lot of pressure from fans, coaches, teammates, owners, even inner circle like friends and families questioning his motive for changing his shot, that he's hurting the team and himself for the next contract, urging him to ditch it and change it back to his old form... every game his new shot isn't working he's hurting the team, people are making sure he is reminded of this everyday, but he badly wants to show to the world once his new shot works consistently it's going to be so much better for everyone, the team, but it hasn't worked so far, and he's feeling pressured to change it back, it's eating at him

Thibs started to become a problem. If you aren’t trying your young players when you are 20 points down, when will you ever give them a chance? Hukporti looked special in Brooklyn game then he started collecting DNPs.

it has nothing to do sometimes with winning the game. Sometimes you need to cut your losses and get guys in just to save guys to fight another day.
And who knows if a guy that typically doesn't play has a good stretch maybe he has some confidence to run with him for the next game.
I have no idea what your argument is...everyone got cooked including the bench so your solution is not play the bench.
This isn't the playoffs...he's running a playoff rotation in November...no one is arguing when the games becomes even bigger you can thin out the rotation to the main guys. RIght now that is unacceptable especially in a game where the starters got punched in the mouth early and didn't play with the right effort and energy.
Its a long season...you better start trusting or getting contributions from the bench or guys like OG won't make it through the year healthy.
You act like they haven’t bounced back the next game after every game you complain about fatigue. They were tired against Pacers then they whooped Philly next game. Tired against Bulls then they won 4 in a row. Tired against Utah then they destroyed Denver on their home court. You are so worried about health and playoffs and ignoring the steps that are needed to even get there and develop into the team you hope for them to be. You think we are that good that we will just be getting through these experienced teams who have played together for years once the playoffs start? Yes it’s still early and it’s still November but they have ways to go. They also need to figure out if this is really the final group that they will depend on to make that playoff push. Do we need to make a rotation change? Roster change? Are we looking for another star? Or a high end role player? Bench piece? Or starter replacement? I’m not sold on this team, there’s something missing. They’ll have to figure that out too
Yes ramming 40 minutes a night for the starters is certainly a step needed to get to the playoffs....
This isn't black and white...there is nuance to this. Waving the white flag or living to fight another day isn't preventing us from getting anywhere. Teams will have bad nights...teams will be sluggish on certain nights. On those nights maybe the win or loss isn't the most important its getting through the game and seeing what the bench can do.
Like you said we have had clunkers early in the year...that isn't to be unexpected for a new team that was put together with a new identity right before training camp.
I'm saying Thibs needs to be smarter especially in games he is trailing...he tends to even have a shorter leash because he panics and doesn't trust when sometimes the bench is needed for a spark. You wont know unless you use them and not for a couple minute stretch.
Its simple unsustainable.
We go back and forth on this all the time. OG had no business playing +40 minutes tonight. There is simply not an argument to be made.
In other situation maybe...but your just defending thibs to defend him. There is a reason we also suck in the 4th qtr of games....its the same team that typically has success in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd qrts but falls apart in the 4th.
Living to fight another day, what do you even mean when you say that? You mean be able to bounce back next game? I already addressed that earlier but you ignored it. Not sure what else you are referring to with that.
Right now Brunson and KAT are not even top 30 in minutes per game. It’s basically just Mikal, Hart and OG that are plying 35+ minutes. So with a weak bench, weakest bench in the league, you rather have him play Brunson and KAT more minutes or the other guys? You will have to pick because this weak bench we have isn’t going to be helping us win many games or are you just ok with losing games? You have to pick, you can’t have it both ways.
We also play at the slowest pace in the league, our guys aren’t getting burned out as quickly as teams that are playing faster.
Looking at our previous seasons, Thibs hasn’t been reluctant on playing the bench when he actually has one. We currently don’t have one.
But there are other issues going on that you are choosing to ignore. Starters have not looked good against good defensive teams and it’s not related to minutes distribution or fatigue. Mikal is kind of the elephant in the room but rather than acknowledge that you want to complain about OG playing 40 minutes as if that really matters right now.

Game 18. No Mitch...No Precious and no developed bench. End of story.
With no Luka, no Gafford, no Klay I don't think that a good enough excuse to say we are missing two bigs.
I know you guys are hot tonight but I stand by what I said. We just played the champs of the west. Klay wasnt on that team. They added Naji- who's better than Derrick. Today, we cant beat the defending champs on their home floor with our new team-much less our short handed new team mph...
They were missing 3 key players including their best player Luka while having multiple players returning from an illness that has ran through their locker room and playing their 3rd games in 4 nights after just coming home from a short road trip. I can't think of a more favorable situation to come into their house and beat the "champs of the west". The only excuse I would accept for how poorly the Knicks performed last night was they were sick too since I know a Thibs team would be unlikely to rest sick players.
You are excusing them for missing Klay since he was not on their team last year but ignoring that we got our ass kicked by almost everyone including Grimes, Marshall and Dinwiddie, 3 guys that weren't on the team last year either. The Knicks have some clear issues that need to be fixed. It's early so I wont panic but I hope the season doesn't completely depend on the return of an injury prone Mitch and Precious who was collecting DNP's while Hart was playing the full games near the end of last year.

We’re like the bizzaro pacers from last year. Any given night we might put up 130+ and smoke you but we play no defense and our coach is a bimbo so who knows what you’ll get night in and out. Oh and we have the slowest pace not the fastest so when we look bad oh man it’s ugly.
The rockets this year play like us from last year.
I think we're missing Precious and Mitch something crazy. Th knicks need to have a defensive big line up or we're prone to get abused in the paint. I also think it would help Bridges POA defense which since guards wouldn't just push on the jets because they know Mitch in the paint.
Mikal is basically dying on screens, we're asking him to go over them when we could just switch and live with the results. The biggest issue I have with Tom is that something clearly isn't working, yet we continue to do the thing that doesn't work while never trying any alternatives.

My hope for Mikal defensively is that he is simply trying to protect his body from the wear and tear of a long season on a Thibs coached team. He is currently playing 38+ minutes per game. If he actually took the bumps and bruises of fighting through every screen he might be playing 48+ every night for Thibs
