There’s really only 1 conversation we should be having: Firing Thibs. That’s the root cause of it all. The defense, Mikal, lack of creativity on offense, 7-8 man rotation/40+ mpg for starters in November, sluggish play, etc etc etc.

Need a young, high IQ, forward thinking, modern game coach. It’s that simple. Dude is making me have an itchy trigger finger with my league pass cancellation button

Whether right or wrong there's no way they are firing Thibs anytime soon.

It’s why I really don’t get all the consternation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Knicks in the thibs era always struggle at the start of the season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We usually don’t really take off until end of dec early January!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no doubt this team will figure it out especially mikal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably not without multiple ball handlers. Besides Brunson there’s nobody that can make a plays from above the break unless it’s a spot up 3 or a line drive

That was true of them last year, but the difference is they started using IHart as a hub passer. That has gone out the window even though KAT can make a lot of the same passes, he did it in the 4th.

The team needs a strict hierarchy, they need to force Mikal into being the 3rd guy whether he likes it or not. Tell him go to the rim and get to the line at least like he did last year, he's been ass but how he's being used doesn't help much either. Last year with the Nets 24% of his play types was as the PnR ball handler, this year that's down to 9%. That's less than it was his last year with the Suns (14%).

But that’s kind of the point, the offense last year was not exactly smooth either. They had plenty rough stretches where they had nothing going. Although Donte was still better at ball handling and changing direction than anybody else in current lineup besides Brunson. Plus Donte was able to launch 3s well beyond the 3 point line so that really helped stretch the floor. Right now that guy is KAT but he’s also tasked with setting screens and offense going through him in the post.

Not sure I even want Mikal handling the rock. His handles are shaky and he can’t change direction plus his decision making is bad or at least his passing has been sloppy to say the least. He’s more of a play finisher, catch and shoot guy. Don’t trust him as a ball handler at all.

They need to fake an injury with bridges, then send him home to rework his shot and confidence for 1-2 weeks. He should also hit the weights some to increase strength. Then bring him back and slowly work him back into the rotation. Unorthodox, yes, but probably necessary to reboot his game.

And Hart

I need to listen to what he said...

I just think that in order for Mikal to be productive in a limited role here he has to reinvent himself and unfortunately, for some
of the die-hards it's taking him time. And you know what...maybe Thibs teams start slow because he overplays his players EARLY and their bodies have to get use to it. Our guys are making lots of basic mistakes and I think fatigue plays a hugh factor JVG...

Our offense doesn't look good against teams that can switch because it's rudimentary, when it should shred them all the same. The offense could be better with more movement and getting KAT even easier looks especially off motion that would involve more players which leads to more chances at backdoor cuts.

Knicks are 10th in assists which is better than teams like Boston, OKC and Mavs.

My point was aside from Towns and Brunson the rest of the starters are too inconsistent with their shooting to be a truly great offensive team right now. They get wide open shots and brick them, it does not have anything to do with how fancy the play they ran was.

This feels anecdotal. I don't have the time to really dive into it right now, but at quick glance at NBA.com shooting dashboard shows that the Knicks shoot 48.1% as a team on wide open shots. That is good for 2nd best in the entire NBA.

At the same time, they average 19.3 wide open FGA a game. That is good for 24th in the league.

If you focus on just threes, the Knicks are shooting 43.4% as a team on wide open threes. That's 3rd in the NBA.

But they are just 25th in generating these wide open opportunities from long range, at 16.1 3PA per game.

OG and Mikal specifically shoot 39.6% and 38.5% respectively on wide open threes this year, which is right in line with Jaylen Brown (38.7%) and Payton Pritchard (38.6%) up in Boston.

Yup, definitely not after that extension. That’s what makes all this so much worse… we’re trapped

This is the bottom line, unfortunately.

Thibs is crazy tight with Leon and the three year $24M extension he signed in July hasn't even started yet.

Although if melo starts posting things like, " I can't believe you all think there's any chance Thibs is going anywhere, he's the Knicks head coach until he hits the coffin! So excited to watch his brilliance night in and night out for the next decade!" we might have a chance at what seems logically impossible...

Seeing bridges struggle has been painful cause we know he isn’t this guy. I really want to see Thibs get intentional about running some plays to get him comfortable early, JB has been forcing the KAT connection early I want that for bridges but not just corner looks, get him a some easy buckets, run the dribble handoff play for him instead and get him back in the game cause right now he looks lost.
